NOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, a beautiful coffee table book showcasing the highlights of this massive collection is being assembled in honor of those 50 years of Rock & Roll history that the ABB created during their legendary career. The cream of the crop of the guitars and other instruments, clothing, contracts, posters, photos and all manner of artifacts will be presented in a professionally-produced, hard-cover coffee table book, totaling over 200 pages, filled with over 500 photos of the unique memorabilia collection, much of which has never been displayed until now. When the Allman Brothers Band moved into the Big House on Vineville Avenue in Macon in early 1970, they were a fairly unknown band playing in bars, clubs and parks up and down the east Coast. The group had released one album that was only picked up essentially by the folks who had seen them live. When the last of the band members moved out of the house three years later, they were one of the biggest acts in America. For the next 20 years or so, it was a private home, visited by the occasional Allman Brothers Band fan who would timidly knock on the door and ask, “Did the Allmans used to live here?” But in 2009, the Big House opened to the public as The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House. This book is being produced by Kirk West, Richard Brent, John Lynskey and Brain Shupe. Kirk and his wife Kirsten lived in the Big House from 1993 to 2007, while Richard Brent is the current curator of the museum collection. They are joined by John Lynskey, noted ABB authority and former publisher/editor of Hittin’ the Note magazine, and Brian Shupe, who is the creative director for this project, as he was with two other coffee table books Kirk West’s Photographic Journey with the Brothers and The Blues in Black & White.
