Never heard of Smollet. Never heard of Empire.

Read the entire article and happy to say I still don't know, don't care, or see why anyone would give a crap other than media junkies maybe.

I am really glad I'm not hooked into the cable TV and internet media matrix like most folks, you all are being pulled around by a nose ring. Doesn't matter if you think media is corrupt or not, fact is you are addicted to the info stream and every thought and opinion you have is programmed into you, Coppertop.

Brainwashed.

A local ABC affiliate is on par with TMZ?

I don't know what happened here and am not following this story at all. I just hope whoever is responsible, be it a real attack or a fabricated one, feel the full weight of the law for their actions.

You and everyone here is important for what they contribute. You did come off a little snooty there, separating yourself from "most folks", but you can act and feel however you like ofcourse! I find the cable news shows enjoyable. Some people might have their thoughts programed into them by various sources, but I think most people have the ability to decipher through it for themselves...whether they actually do or not, that much I am less sure about.

As for this story, I shouldn't say much because I am not up to speed on it much and I do not believe there is an official conclusion here yet. But I do find it interesting that now the possibility of it being a hoax is downplayed when we thought initially it was a horrific act carried out against a gay black man by pro-Trump supporters it was rightfully a pretty big story. Now, meh, not so much. It may've still been a hate crime. No matter what they come up with, everyone involved needs prosecuted to the full extend of the law.

Guilty as charged - more than a little snooty. I do tend towards disdain for mainstream propaganda and parrotry, the whole circus strikes me as a put-on. It seems the folks who whine about media the most are the ones who are most dialed into it.

Individual discernment is under heavy fire these days, more info than we can process. Used to be you read something, thought about it for a while, come up with a reasoned opinion. nebish, you are one of the few who takes the time to do that.

Now it's consume a story, then another and another, change channel, more info, surf to the next headline, consume more propaganda, for or against makes no difference, we just suck it up. Instead of our own reckoning we just click away until we hit someting that fits with our particular layers of programming, on and on until we ourselves become channels of info propagation. We ourselves ARE the corrupt media.

So this hollywood actor says he was roughed up by two MAGA hat wearing goons, spewing racist MAGA hate and gay slurs. If that wasnt enough they put a noose around his neck as well.

He described his attackers as the kind of people that the tolerant left like Boyton conjure up in his mind that he believe make up the majority of the Presidents support. The MSM climbed aboard the MAGA-hate tale.

The only problem was this whole saga turns out seems to be a hoax.

Dave Chappelle Says He Wants to Break a Dollhouse Over Jussie Smollett’s Head for “Lying”

The comedian reacted to breaking news suggesting the attack against the actor and singer was a hoax.
by Jeff Taylor 2/15/2019

Dave Chappelle performed Thursday night (February 14) to two sold-out audiences in Charlotte, North Carolina, informing the crowd from the beginning, “We have a lot to talk about.”

I attended the first of the two performances and watched the comedian, fresh off a Grammy win for Best Comedy Album, make good on his opening comment, covering a span of topics that included the Kevin Hart Oscars controversy, his own critics in the transgender community, and the Jussie Smollett case.

Jussie Smollett Stephen Green/ABC via Getty Images) JUSSIE SMOLLETT, ROBIN ROBERTS
He informed the crowd of breaking news, which was inaccessible to those of us in attendance, as he had employed the use of Yondr to lock up people’s phones: Smollett had, in Chappelle’s words, faked the attack against him to stay on Empire.

Chappelle joked that it made him so mad he wanted to break a dollhouse over the star’s head, referencing one of the jokes that brought criticism to Hart.

At showtime it had just been reported that sources said there was reason to believe the attack was faked, but Chicago police tweeted out in response that there was “no evidence to say that this is a hoax.” Fox also denied the rumor that he was being written off the show. It seems Chappelle had not received that information.

He questioned a number of elements of Smollett’s story, saying he was skeptical from the beginning, despite wanting to believe him. Even Scooby-Doo, he joked, would have questioned the veracity of the actor and singer’s account.

Chappelle suggested Smollett wouldn’t be going to Subway late at night, asking, “He doesn’t have people who can do that for him?” He also said it seemed odd to him that someone would be wearing both a ski mask and a “Make America Great Again” hat, as some reporting claimed the two alleged attackers were wearing. Smollett has said that he never claimed the men were wearing MAGA hats.

Chappelle also wondered who would have rope with them in Chicago, and why he waited so long to report the incident to police, as well as why he would keep the noose around his neck. Smollett has said he didn’t want to call police at first, and that he left the rope around his neck because he wanted them to see it when they arrived.

Smollett said one of the men asked him, “Aren’t you that faggot Empire nigger?”

Chappelle doubted that too, saying it sounded more like something he would say, and asked how anyone could get through watching that show if they hated gay people, due to its high level of LGBTQ representation.

He didn’t buy that Smollett’s alleged attackers would have shouted, “This is MAGA country!” either, as Smollett claims, saying that’s not how white, Trump supporting racists talk.

“They say, ’This is America!'” he quipped.

He repeatedly expressed his anger that, in his belief, Smollett had lied about the attack, saying it would hurt the credibility of real victims of anti-gay and racist violence.

“Hopefully the gays will take the brunt of this,” he joked.

He noted that Kevin Hart, who won’t be hosting the Oscars after all due to unearthed homophobic tweets and jokes, was probably watching the news laughing to himself. Hart had reached out to offer support to Smollett and was chastised by many who said it was an example of why he should have been more responsible with his platform.

Chappelle defended Hart, saying he was “obviously joking” when he said he would break his daughter’s dollhouse over his son’s head if he showed signs of being gay. He said that “believe it or not,” he has plenty of gay friends who have told him how difficult it was to be open about their identities, but Chappelle said “not one of them—not a single one—has ever told me that their father smashed a **** ing dollhouse over their head.”

Besides, he said, he would have to get him a dollhouse in order to break it over his head, he added. This despite Hart’s joke saying it would be his daughter’s dollhouse that he’d be using.

Chappelle also addressed his critics in the LGBTQ community, which he called “the alphabet people,” noting that transgender people in particular were upset with him. He said he didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings and felt bad when he did, but that he thinks people are only really mad at him “on the internet.”

He said he’s been told to look out, because transgender people are out to get him, but that whenever he seems a trans person, “They’re just like, ’Heyyyy!!!'”

Chappelle told a story about his son befriending a young trans girl, whom the community, including the comedian himself, felt moved to protect. But one day his son said he was frustrated because whenever he and his friend disagreed, everyone sided with the trans child because there was an overall desire to protect her.

“And I’m like, ’Yo, son… they get on my nerves, too!'”

“Just because you’re gay doesn’t make you right about every goddamn thing. You right about a lot of **** , but I mean… just give these people their rights so I can say funny **** again,” he said, to laughs and applause.

The comedian also recalled being asked by Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen if he could ever host the Oscars, to which he replied: “Well, if Kevin can’t, **** , I’m sure I can’t. I’ve said way worse than that.”

He closed out the set with this message: “If I ever get in trouble for the things I say, I’ll say it right now: I’m going to apologize. Just know, I’m not sorry.”

Today, two suspects, Nigerian brothers, were arrested in connection with the attack on Smollett. They are being treated as “potential suspects,” and one of the men worked on Empire, police report.

When the history of this political era is written, methinks many books and lectures will be written on the power of confirmation bias...it drives all of everything right now, every thought, every visceral reaction.

To the point that...where do we go from here? I'm firmly beginning to think that the idea of "respectful debate and compromise" is folly. Our society is sectioned off. Do we fight it or embrace it? I'm thinking the latter.

There will always be parts of our society where the unlike-minded will have to interact, but that will be kept at the minimum. Can easily foresee this turning more and more geographical as people migrate to where they feel more ideologically comfortable.

Goob brings up a notion we see more and more..."He described his attackers as the kind of people that the tolerant left like Boyton conjure up in his mind that he believe make up the majority of the Presidents support. The MSM climbed aboard the MAGA-hate tale."

Because the MAGAs are so full of peace, love and understanding? Boo hoo, chief.

It gets pretty sci-fi when you look at it. It looks to me like the reactions to the show give us more accurate info than the show itself. If a country boy like me can suss this out, be sure it has long been a hi tek social engineering science. We are being played like Nero's fiddle, man.

Notice how that all everyone is doing is reacting to the reactions instead of the actions?

A - Politician, entertainer, news pundit does or says something
B - Other side reacts
C - Home team of Person A only reacts and responds to the Bs initial reaction, not the actual validity, morality or legality of Person A action(s)

Confirmation bias + willingness to be manipulated = absolute s--tshow

A quick web search shows the matter is still in question. At this time all discussion is guesswork. So far all we have on this thread is a couple folks seizing on the "hoax" theory, a few comments condemning the action and calling for justice for the perps whatever comes to light, and a side discussion about media mind control.

Catch-22 ! If you miss the lefty cue and don't jump up and start screaming from the antiMAGA script about an unproven story, then the crickets are on vacation and the story is false. If you do start screaming "hate crime" then you are a just part of the antiMAGA torch-and-pitchfork mob, and the story is false.

Looks like only a couple folks taking the bait here so far.

This is a good summary of it all. I think confirmation bias is a result of people who might agree with the criticisms of their values, but feel defensive about it and therefore find their "they do it too" article.......which leads to the hyper-focus on hypocrisy. Feeling attacked and defensive? "You do it too, therefore you're a hypocrite and I'm not a bad person like you say I am." We are arguing about how our points are being made, rather than the points and issues themselves.

Just to use Goober as an example of those who embrace our current political climate, notice how he acknowledges that I have zero tolerance for quite a bit, and not ashamed to talk about it. But it's that I'm "on the left". He doesn't have a problem with my examples of intolerance, his issue is that I'm "on the left". In his mind, and I'm assuming millions of other red hat wearers, if you are "on the left" politically, you had better not ever be intolerant of anything, otherwise you are a hypocrite .

Sorry to extract from complete sentence, but you are onto something here I think. I don't think "agree with criticism of their values" is always it though. It has more to do with a desire to be accepted, while knowing that your values are offensive in the modern world. I would actually respect someone who had the huevos to post openly what they think, rather than this constant stealth sapping technique of forcing others to read between the lines, where they are making their position obvious.

So, you are a White Supremacist? Just say so. Sure you might get flamed but so what, it's just a thread. Big ouch.

You think the Jewish Holocaust was fake news? Explain why, we are all ears, you don't have to say it in a thousand riddles.

You feel that women are nothing but sausage casing? Feel free to express it, instead of years of fifth grade level dirty jokes.

Hate gays? By all means, let it rip, keep it civil you won't get banned - save yourself the trouble of surfing all day to find articles to prove you don't hate gays when you really do, which is just plain warped.
