It was on that first European tour in April of 2005 that I had the pleasure of meeting you, Roger. At the "Pillars Of Hercules" pub in Soho, London, when you came over for the gig at the "Mean Fiddler" ... a venue that has since been bulldozed ... it was a somewhat dingy, underground joint, but one full of good memories ...

I will be at the gig in Chelsea, London, tomorrow night ... very much looking forward to it ... I will report back ...

Hello Colin,

Looking forward to your report of the London gig tomorrow. Maybe one of your mates can upload some pics here.

Yep, that London gig in 2005 is still fresh on my memory. Also meeting you and a few other forum members at the Pillar for some pre-show pints! After the gig we went to a nearby jazz / blues club which name escapes me at the moment. Weird place. From the ground floor you could only see the bottom half of the musicians on stage!

I flew to London with budget company Ryan Air for like € 16,00 (return ticket!) went to a pub for some pubgrub in Carnaby Street, then to the Pillar for the pre-show meeting, the gig, the blues/jazz night club and with the night bus back to the Stansted Airport. Back in the Netherlands early in the morning. No sleep. From the airport in Eindhoven i had a train ride down south to my hometown. 2 hour rest and shower and then back up North by car to Amsterdam for another Mule show at the Melkweg / Milkyway. Was worth all the travelling. Only 1 song was played on both nights! So that were 5 1/2 hours of Mule. Not bad for a start! And fortunally they have returned on many occasions ever since.

Hi Roger, Colin,

It's been a white since I last logged in :-)
Recalling, I think 2005 were my first Govt Mule concerts as well.
Was it the Milkyway or Paradiso?? Few days later I was in Frankfurt (Germany) (work related) and in the evening drove to Cologne (Köln) to see them again.
Since 2005 I lost count. I think Saturday will be my 9th Mule show (Utrecht, NL) and 11th time Warren (twice the WHB). Looking forward to it.

Hello Mathieu,

Enjoy yourself at Roots In The Park in Utecht, Netherlands.

Regarding Mule in 2005: they first played in the Milkyway in april and to my pleasant surprise they returned to Europe in august and played at the Paradiso. If you can recall a guest on stage (Hook Herrera) then you were at the Milkyway show in april 2005.

Cheers

Hi Roger,
For me the first time was August 2005. 2 concerts within a few days (Amsterdam, Koln).
Are you going to Peer? If so enjoy! Great line-up the whole weekend.

Hello Mathieu, nope i'm not going to see them at BRBF in Peer,Belgium. In stead i'm seeing them tonight (yeehah!!!) in Limbourg, Belgium and in 2 weeks from now at the Burg Herzberg Festival in Germany. It's a 4 day festival in the same weekend than BRBF so i can't make it to that other show. I expect the festival show in Germany to be longer than in Belgium. That German hippie festival has a very "relaxed" time schedule.

You beat me to it with the set list Roger ... excellent show last night ... it is great to see these guys in a cosy 500 capacity venue ... much better than an old converted cinema ...

The entire gig was superb ... lots of old favourites ... especially in the opening set ... and the "Rockin' In The Free World" encore was off the charts ... my ass is well and truly kicked ...

You take it as read that Warren will be superb but I thought that Matt, Danny and Jorgen were outstanding too.

If you can get away with a cowbell solo and a trombone solo ...!

Excellent gig last night. Great venue, other than the football club that hosts it. Still not a fan of Danny, but he didn't manage to ruin the gig. Don't like the cod-reggae that Warren occasionally feels the need to play, so could have done without Unring The Bell, and parts of Scared To Live. My highlight was Captured closely followed by Kind Of Bird. The guests and encore were great especially the tremendous gurning skills of Elliott Randall. I knew the name, but couldn't recall from where. So it was a pleasant surprise to find he was the soloist on Steely Dan's 'Reelin In The Years', a band i've been listening to since i was a baby, courtesy of my dad being a big fan.

Not long got home from a sweltering sunny London. Enjoyed the gig, outstanding in fact. The venue was top notch, and the band put on a great show last night. It was also great to meet up with a few well known faces in the Mule fraternity. Hope all went well for you today Colin.

The reggae does my head in too, always has.

I think that's six shows I've seen in London - 3 x Mean Fiddler, 1 x Forum, 2 x UTB (I also saw the original band in New York on 2000's Beacon trip) - and it would be good if they did one of their themed shows one time. Unless it's a reggae theme!!!

Not a complaint - more of a wish.

Good to meet so many familiar faces at the pub and venue! I hope things went well for you today, Colin. Best wishes to Mel too.

PS - Thanks for the gift, Colin!

Tonight's show was outstanding. I was very pleased that they played "Inside Outside Woman Blues" because it's my favorite track from "By A Thread" and they didn't play it at the 3 concerts i attended in 2009 / 2010 while they were touring with that album. It also was a first for me that they played a double encore. "The Night Is Black Jam >" was an instrumental jam consisting of excerpts from "Black Night" and "Child in Time", both of course from Deep Purple. Besides the 2 new songs it was the first time for me to hear them play "Kings Highway + Jam" and also "Effigy > Folsom Prison Blues > Effigy". It was good to see that Warren lost a lot of weight. Played lot's of slide guitar and was very engaged. Crowd was very into it. And thank God not that much talkers and "dumb people with smart phones".

A good night even if it was probably my least favourite of the 9 times I've seen them. Set 1 was a bit too 'greatest hits' for my lliking, set 2 much better though I was disappointed that 1 of the newies was another Reggae tune, I thought they'd got over that by now, not good. Don't know why they keep dragging poor old Elliot Randall up to make funny faces & scrape the strings, he contributes absolutely nothing, awful! Sax player was top notch though.

I was at this Roots in the Park festival in Utrecht (NL).
Short show, 1hr15m (the disadvantage of festivals).
Added to this the encore with Beth Hart as showed in the vids above.
Beth Hart really was thrilled, a dream came true, she said.
The guys liked it as well. Never saw Jörgen smiling/laughing so often.

In my opinion however Beth overreacted / was too exited and that did influence the overall quality (especially when all you've got is an audio source).
But what the heck, having had the privilege to witness this, it really was great. It ended this very nice festival with a big climax!!
