Just read on a favourite music forum that Bill Levenson has stated that
he is involved in mastering `Live At Winterland' for CD release....this
would be, what, 1973? When the MTB opened?

Well, i reckon it's still in a rumour phase and i "have to see/hear it before i believe it" but there's more good news. I googled a bit:
http://www.imwan.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&p=2327735
"No details yet, but Bill Levenson (co-producer of Duane Allman's Skydog box set, among others) posted a quick blurb on Facebook about being at Sterling Sound for a mastering session for Brothers And Sisters and Live At Winterland."
And a response (that makes sense to me):
"I've got to believe this is a "Deluxe Edition" for the 30th anniversary of "Brothers & Sisters". Disc 1 would be the original album remasterd; disc 2 would be the "Winterland" concert from '73."

That sounds great to me. I hope it materializes. I don't have the Winterland show and would love to have it. |

Thinking about it ... if this is to be a delux "B&S" release then it will have to be a triple album as the live show takes up two discs ... personally I would like to see one of the recording session jams tagged onto the end of the Brothers and Sisters disc as there is plenty of room on a CD to do that ... then the package would be perfect ... I won't hold my breath ... but a boy can dream can't he? ..... ____________________

Yep, i was thinking the same. They could for instance add "Berry's Jam" and the "Pony Boy" outtake version from:
http://www.abbdiscography.com/cdrbrothersandsistersouttakes.htm
If there's gonna be a B&S Deluxe Edition i doubt there will be a 3rd disc but i keep my fingers crossed. Maybe they decide to compile tracks from the Winterland show and put them on a single disc in stead. Maybe ommiting the songs already released on "Wipe The Windows......".
(Wasted Words, Ramblin' Man, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed and Southbound made it onto
the "Wipe The Windows....." album). Lot's of maybe's but a man can dream .
Or a live DVD as a third disc....... .

Damn I hope they get this done!...Aside from the LAFE album, this is the most passionate performance from this band I've ever heard. I can recall listening to this as it was broadcast "live" on KSAN in S.F. I still have most of the original broadcast on reel to reel somewhere....:
From a 2007 post:
================
I just finished listening to the encore from this show ( Blue Sky, Trouble no More>>Whipping Post) and all I can say is WOW! What a Performance. My Copy of this show was taken right off of KSAN the night of the performance... The tape runs all the way through the return to the studio and then some. After the final notes of W.P. the crowd goes nuts and continues to stomp their feet and clap, Finally Bill Graham emerges to say the Band thanks you... and... Ciao... Greensleves starts to play and Tom Donahue (KSAN D.J. Host of the show) starts to thank Tom Fly, Tom Scott and Johhny Sandlin as Johnny walks by the Broadcast Booth . The following is the transcript of the short interview between Tom and Johnny. I didn't know if this was on the traded version of the show... so here goes:
T.D./ John...Why don't you come over here for a minute.
You're an ex Bass player aren't ya?
J.S./ah...I used to play Bass and drums some ...yeah
T.D./ Didn't you play in...were you in Hourglass?
J.S./ Yeah, I played drums for the Hourglass
T.D./ Yeah right, so you've been around the Allmans for a long time
J.S./ Yeah, I've known Gregg and Duane for a good while, close friends
T.D./ Wouldn't you say that tonight was one of the best performances you've heard out of them?
J.S./ Uh.. I thought it was very good...ah....
Donahue interjects:
T.D./ A lot of intensity
J.S./Ahh, The power was there and they were all playing very well
T.D./ So you're gonna go in and start workin' on this tape that's been cut tonight...tomorrow night?
J.S./ We're gonna mix it down in quad
T.D./ uh huh
J.S./ Seems like live performances type things come out, um... better in quad than the other things... they're more real
T.D./ We thank you for helpin' us and talking to us
J.S./ Thank You ____________________ "And we're like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don't address climate change" - Congresswoman Box of rocks |

If anyone wants to give it a listen, 9/26/73 is available for streaming at Wolfgang's Vault.
Not saying that this is necessarily the same recording of the show that is referenced above.
But it is an excellant recording. Missing Whipping Post. ____________________ Disclaimer:

That is a perfectly plausible show to include as part of a Brothers and Sisters 2-disc reissue.
Luckily this wouldn't have anything to do with the Archive series, so don't be discouraged by the lack of activity on that front. This would be like the 6/27/71 show they included as Disc 2 on the Eat A Peach re-issue.
Actually, it would be even better, because that '73 Winterland show is a much better reflection of what that era of the band could do. 6/27/71 wasn't even the best show the ABB played at the Fillmore East that week, and certainly not the best the Duane/Berry lineup could do.
Sounds like the fans would win with this one! Let's be optimistic and hope it happens. |

I would to have them put out Berry's Jam on the B&S. Years ago Dickey alluded to them releasing it. Maybe the time is now!!!! ____________________ Run Gypsy Run roll on down the high way |

I would love for them to mix and release this whole show, HOWEVER, it does seem that if this is "Brothers and Sisters live at Winterland" and part of the "Deluxe Edition", is more likely we'll get a single disc of the show, which would probably mostly focus on the material from that album with some other songs. And most of those songs were already on "Wipe the Windows" (although I love the idea of a fresh mix)... I'd be happy with that, but let's hope I'm wrong and the whole thing comes out... |

Said very well...also would hope to see B&S with extra cuts and the Winterland show...wow! 73 was the era I began seeing the Brothers and any release, particularly that show would be something I'd love to have. |

One other quick thought--Brothers and Sisters isn't that long of an album, so depending on how many "outtakes" they include, you could have some of the Winterland show on Disc 1 and the remainder on Disc 2, allowing them to include most of the show.
Jefferson Airplane did this with their recent re-issue of Volunteers. The original album is the first half of Disc 1, and the rest of Disc 1 and all of Disc 2 are the complete Airplane show from Woodstock. Highly recommended! |

Why most?
My preference is the entire show, for continuity and flow....if "most"refers to excluding the Wipe the Widows cuts,I still prefer they keep the show intact. |

Well Effie, the only way to do that is to make this a 3-CD release, and I don't see that happening. Mainly for cost reasons, but also because the Wipe The Windows material may be unavailable.
I agree that all fans would prefer an entire show in this scenario, but keep in mind we are talking about "bonus material" for a Brothers and Sisters re-issue, not a stand alone release of 9/26/73.
Regardless of how much they include or don't include, I'm glad to hear about this. Brothers and Sisters may well be the last "classic" ABB album to get the re-issue treatment, so it's worth doing right. |

I have a whole CD of outtakes and alternates from the "Brothers And Sisters" sessions; I forget what all is on it but I remember "Berry's Jam" (awesome track!), "Early Mornin' Blues" (which evolved into "Jelly, Jelly") and alternates of some other tracks; about 60 minutes worth all together. Anybody know if there is any more stuff from those sessions? ____________________ Shandy Glover (southerncdman)

That's about all of it that I've ever heard about too Shandy -- seems as though 2 CDs, to include it & previously-unreleased stuff from the Winterland show, would b the right treatment for a B&S re-release -- between it, the archive release & WTWCTODGas this era would be well summed up, along of course w/the Real Nice year-end show at the Cow Palace that's a Must-Have for this lineup -- the improv at this show, also Nassau, is Real Nice -- they never came close to this IMO over the next 2 1/2 years...
I love the Boston Common archive, esp. too because at the very end, at least on my CD, the last 4-5 min. cut back to an audience recording of the show!! The sound suffers sure but it's only the last 4-5 min of WPost & shows what an upgraded sound you've just listened to etc...
one thing about the 6/27/71 show that accompanied the EAP re-release: It doesn't include Bill Graham's intro, which the cassette does. Just sayin
