Thread: Feeling Nostalgic

fast43 - 2/1/2019 at 01:46 AM

I'm in the process of transferring all my shows to a HD. Some of the shows I have notes from who sent them. Some signed and some not and I'm trying to figure out who I got the show from . It got me thinking about the old days of snail mail trading and the folks here that traded.

PhotoRon sent me my first show and it was like sending a junkie dope. Mailbox full of mailers every day. Magic stamps, surprise extra discs thrown in, Old Coots shoe box,and only $.60 to mail two CD's. Too many people to name but I will single out OldDirtRoad , one of the most generous people I traded with.

Before discovering this site, I had not experienced such wonderful and generous, caring and sharing, when it comes to music that takes place or did take place here, in 2005 I took my Dad to Navy Pier to see Mule, after many hugs and free beers from strangers, he said he felt like he was back in the 60's..........Peace.......joe

I might have gotten a show or two from fast43 ...

transferring all my shows to a HD

Back em up on 2 drives. I had the heartstopping experience of a drive seizing up, it had 2 tb of shows on it.

ODR, Old Coot, fast 43, Dino - got shows from all mentioned and so many more.

Now ODR ( Kenny) was absolutely special. Instead of sending a show or a few of them. He shipped boxes full of discs. God Bless him.

yeah the good old days. It's great to just search a torrent site and get something instantly, but there was something more personal and special to do trades and vines and b&ps when everyone else was into it.

Great thread! There was nothing like coming home and seeing yellow packages stuffed in the mailbox full of hours of live music!

Bird72 freebied my first show, 3/23/72 Price Hall Alabama. Thanks Tony! Will never forget discovering that there was this community of traders and that all of these shows were actually out there. 2500 shows later.......I was an addict! lol

Echoing all sentiments, Tony/Bird 72 many years ago sent a Gregg Allman Tour show I was at, & that I dig & appreciate to this day
Always thankful to Tom Bourdon, I was a trading fool w/him back in the day (of cassettes no less too, at first ) -- same with Rob Barnard & the countless others

Hughduty, Harvey and dutchoneill were my first influences in the trade section.
I do not really trade anymore but I thank these three gentlemen for getting me started and introducing me to many excellent people on this site. Thanks to all!.

Ahhhh the good ole days. If I were to single out one person for fueling my addiction it would be Hugh Duty. One thing about Hugh was that he HATED vines LOL. Hugh was the man who introduced me to Walter Trout when he threw a couple of his shows into a pack once. What a generous guy. Too many others to mention but y'all know who you are. :-D
