ezrapdi'm not sure. which one's Hot'lanta?
mistersnappyAlot of tone right here! left is a '58? and right is the famous tobacco burst '59 which is at the RnR Hall of Fame I think-on loan from Duane's daughter Galadriel.
ezrapdbeautiful instruments. i read somewhere about the pickups on Hotlanta being really "hot". wasn't sure what that meant until i listened to the Warehouse show from 9/71, especially liz reed and blue sky. awesome.
nitelite51it looks to me like these guitars are balanced on the fulcrum of a chair back...makes me nervous every time I see this pic! so many les pauls with cracked headstocks.
RussvergaraI think the headstock had been busted a couple of times on the darker les paul One of the COOLEST photos ever!
PeachNuttJust beautiful!!
serpicoYeah...but who's in the background?
LesPaulStandardLoverThis is a great photo of the Les Pauls Duane played in 1971. I believe the 1957 Les Paul Gold Top was traded in Nashville for the 1959 Les Paul Standard Desert Burst bookends maple on the right. I know the 1958 LP got a broken neck during shipping once.
Capnvery cool picture
LesPaulStandardLoverAfter reading Skydog, the '57 Les Paul Gold Top was traded to another guitar player in Daytona Beach for the '59 Les Paul Standard Desert Flame Top. The '57 Goldie pickups were taken out by a roadie and put in the '59 Hot'lanta because Duane liked their
LesPaulStandardLoverDuane liked the '57 Les Paul pickups tone better. More than likely the other guitar player never knew the pickups were swapped. Thus, "Hot'lanta" was a '59 Gibson Les Paul Standard with the hotter '57 PAF pickups from "Goldie" and a replaced neck.
gearheadPhotos expecially with old cameras play tricks with transparent colors, the left is the cherry burst seen on the Fillmore 70 footage,it is the guitar that got the goldtop picks not the tobacco burst it retainted the pickups it came with
goldtopThe 57 was traded for the 58 cherry sunburst in September of 1970. Hot Lanta was delivered to Duane at the Fillmore East in June of 1971.
LesPaulStandardLoverYa'll are correct, I got my Les Pauls mixed up. The '57 Gold Top was traded to the guitar player from Stone Balloon for the '58 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst on the left, which looks brownish in the photo. I wonder if the guy ever knew the pickups were swapped
LesPaulStandardLoverDoes anyone know the date this photo was taken? Someone told me it was taken only 6 days before Duane's death.
