blink of an eye, we're 2 GB
it's 3.5 for Seattle -- we split w/them last weekend -- we have to win the series this wknd -- we miss King Felix, it should be a go -- we got the bats fired up this aftrn -- let's go Sox

I've said this before but I REALLY hate the one game play in thing. Yanks and Red Sux could have the the best records in the league and one gets bumped after a day.

College can do two out of three, why not MLB? If they are so concerned about travel just give the whole mini series home field to whoever wins the division.

Agreed -- it doesn't prove a thing -- wish they'd left it at the top 3 & 1 WC --
I'd like to see a retro move to two divisions, the winners playing 3 of 5 -- get rid of the "ALDS" format in favor of one ALCS

On One Day.
On one day in August 1992, Giants pitcher Bud Black had a career record of 92-92, and the teams for which he played had a 796-796 record, the ultimate .500 pitcher.

wait tho -- the Red Stockings, America's original team (1869) are making a move (W4) in the NL Cntrl -- Texas, W5 -- other end, ChiSox & KC a combined L16, groty

Also Seattle L4, & we have to expose them to the same level of play this wknd that they just saw in NY -- we have to show 'em it's not just NY & Houston, that we're at that level too & can't slide any further back -- they have easy ones this wknd (Houstn/NYY) -- let's go Sox, boys of summer

Speaking of today's title, does anyone know what team they are today? Without Googling?

Sure do and here's how I ask this as a trivia question:

"If the Boston Braves became the Milwaukee Braves who then became the Atlanta Braves, where did the Brewers come from"?

This lady I used to know who is from Milwaukee fancies herself a baseball fan. I asked her if she knew where the Brewers moved from. She didn't know. Didn't rub it in but I did kind of chuckle.

So I went to an independent league minor league game today. The Chicago Dogs. I would equate the talent level to low single A minor league. Not a knock. It was good. Cool stadium, cheap refreshments, a ton of kids there.

It was kind of a hike to get there but had a lot of fun.

As a Brewers fan myself, I can say most Brew fans know this, but since it was just a single season in Seattle, there are just as many Brewers and Mariners fans who aren't aware of the Pilots (I think both franchises have worn Pilots throwbacks). Just as there are a lot of Orioles fans who aren't aware their team started as the Milwaukee Brewers for a single season. You could still find plenty of Braves fans in the area in the 80s and 90s, though the early 80s Brewers squads thinned their ranks and converted a lot of folks.

The American League was actually founded in Milwaukee, and their team immediately left town. Coincidentally, the only one of the 8 original AL teams to fold were the Baltimore Orioles, who were eventually reborn from the original Milwaukee Brewers (after a few decades in St Louis). And the Orioles' demise led immediately to the formation of the NY Highlanders.

I think the Brewers are the only team to lose a World Series and a League Championship to the same team.

And if people dislike the Washington "Redskins" name they can blame Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves.

Since early NFL teams attempted to gain fans by changing their names to mirror the established baseball teams whose stadiums they shared (Bears/Cubs, Lions/Tigers). Sometimes they used the exact same name such as the NY Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates (later the Steelers), and the Boston Braves. When the Boston Braves football team moved from the NL's Braves' stadium to Fenway, they kept the same Native American theme, but added "Red" to mirror Fenway's Red Sox, becoming the Boston Redskins.

We have the Windy City Thunderbolts close - I go to one game a year and it is fun. Joliet has a team fairly close by too.....

Tuesday night games at Windy City are $2 admission and $2 parking - $4 for a 16-oz Goose Island 4 Star Pils ....

We have the Vermont Mountaineers, a college all-star league of sorts, something along the lines of the Cape Cod League -- real enjoyable, bball the way it was meant to be, a fun, very good brand of ball, $6 tickets -- the Vermont Lake Monsters, Oakland A's AA affiliate, play in Burlington

Jim Bouton of Ball 4 fame pitched for the Seattle Pilots (upstairs not google)

"15 years goes qwiker than it used to"
June 27 2003, the Sawx set a record scoring 10 runs before the first out is recorded in a 25-8 win -- score 14 runs in 1st inning, Johnny Damon sets, or ties, record w/3 hits in 1st inning

The Tiggers just fired their pitching coach Chris Bosio for insensitive comments, whatever that means. So he was there all of three months. I wonder what he did.

They're alleging a racial slur, from what I've read -- saw today's title, & Sammy continues to deny he took anything illegal (espn article) -- all the greats like him, Barry B, McGwire, the Rocket, Palmieri etc deserve their own special place

but gosh a deserved feast or what -- Seattle, bounced in 3 straight series w/the iron of the league, Sox & NY -- then along comes big relief in Balt, now lowly-easy KC this wknd, boom, right back on Hstn's case -- crazy scheduling

what can top it tho, Sawx-NY, the two top dogs meeting in the Bronx on 4th of July wknd (?)

hopefully the guy is OK who got hurt at home plate last nite -- in severe pain, carted off the field, rushed to hospital, no word yet on injury

if Billy Hamilton ever did anything w/the bat, going the way Cincy is going right now....

nope it proved out, Boone replacing Girardi, same Cora for Farrell -- Brandon Phillips is a good pickup, a veteran player who'll help

Finally, Do-We, Do-We, Do-We -- in the greatest game of his career, Dwight Evans belts a game winning 3 run HR to complete hitting for the cycle on this day in 1984

Also Craig Biggio in 2007 became just the 9th player ever to attain 3,000 hits w/one team

Without looking it up and off the top of my head, the greatest player of all time, George Brett , Yount, Kaline, Clemente, Mays, Aaron. I think those are some of them.

Sosa has been trying to get back into good graces with the Cubs recently. This story was all over the local news this morning. I don't see it happening. Every Cubs fan here can't stand the guy so I don't think it would be a good idea.

Hell, he walked out on the team during a game.

As if an L9 weren't enough, Bosio is now considering legal action against Det
-------------

A day after he was fired as pitching coach of the Detroit Tigers for using what the team called insensitive comments toward a club employee, Chris Bosio says what happened was a misunderstanding and that he will explore potential legal action against the organization.

"I'm crushed,'' Bosio told USA Today. "I'm absolutely crushed. I still can't believe it's gotten to this point.

"I'm in shock.''

The Tigers on Wednesday fired Bosio for his comments, saying they violated the organization's "zero tolerance for this type of behavior."

Bosio explained his side of the story. While in his cubicle inside the Tigers coaches office, he says he used the word "monkey" to describe Detroit pitcher Daniel Stumpf, who is white. However, Bosio said a clubhouse attendant who is African-American overheard what he said and thought Bosio was talking about him.

Musial. Gwynn. Jeter.

If it means all career hits, including reaching 3,000, with only a single team, that group above would change due to Aaron, Mays etc. switching teams late in their careers.

same Willie, started in NY (Polo Grounds), then the move to SF where he spent most of his career before, like Hank, returning to where his career began
