Sunshine music fest in St. Pete was top notch. Derek was tremendous and came out blazing from the first song and never slowed. The whole band threw down heavy with some nice covers from Derek & Dominoes, Bob Dylan, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Tom Petty. I swear Susan gets better on the guitar with every passing year. Their saxophone player was bad ass, and their back-up singers had a few songs to shine on. Temperature with windchill felt like in was in the low 30ís. Wasnít prepared for that but the entire festival was pretty solid. Yíall are in for a treat in Boca. Galactic was nice and Hot Tuna was very impressive. Jack Casady is a beast on bass. So smooth. Medeski, Martin and Wood were better than I remembered. Mike Gordonís band is nice as well, some real solid players. The guitarist had some serious skills and a nice voice. They a threw a fun Aerosmith cover in the set that was nicely done. Was bummed I missed the Suffers. Hopefully Iíll catch them another time.

Thanks for the report! We are heading to Sunshine EAST today. Last year the Packers had a 4.30 playoff game so we had to watch that at a bar just down from Mizner, only managed to catch the (totally smokin') TTB set. Looking forward to taking in the whole day.

Had a fun time at Sunshine Boca. TTB put on a great set. We got there as Medeski, Martin and Wood started playing after grabbing some lunch and a few beers (and some playoff football) nearby at The Yard House. MMW were a ton of fun. The second stage is much more intimate, but I can't say any of the other bands did much for me. Mike Gordon and Galactic were both enjoyable, but mostly felt like I was killing time waiting for TTB. We stayed by the wine bar in order to snag a table during Hot Tuna's set - we could still hear them and I've seen them at Wanee about a bazzilion times. TTB did not disappoint, anyone in that band could front their own band and I'd see them in a heart beat. They never get old.

Not to sound too picky, but I'm not really a fan of the set up at Mizner. I know the chairs up front pay the bills, but there isn't much standing room elsewhere - it's a lot of sidewalk since it's at the end of a mall. I hesitate to complain since it's pretty close to me, but there are definitely better amphitheaters in the area that better suit this type of fest than Boca.

Miznor Park has become an odd place to see a show - I would recommend getting seats. St. Pete is far more relaxed than Boca; feels more like a festival. Iím very happy they changed it up this year. Boca was a different show. That storm/whipping post encore was intense. Thankfully Derek brings it every time. The aftershow at the funky buscuit was cool. The Heavy Pets with DJ Logic and Albert Castiglia. They had some great jams. Love all three and seeing them together was a treat. The heavy pets are extremely polished, DJ Logic is always smooth and Albert is a blues master on guitar. They brought out Derekís horn guy who crushed it. Was trippy & funky at the same time. Was a good weekend in Florida for music.

I thought the lineup was weak and was sorely tempted to skip the festival but decided to attend as I am a big fan of TTB. Arrived at the end of MMW and thought they were better than I have seen them before. Having said that, I never need to see them again.

Galactic and Mike Gordon were both bands with talented players. I just wished that both bands would learn when to begin and end songs.

Hot Tuna was better than the last time I saw them which was at the Christmas Jam a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed them when Jorma played the Gibson. They played an hour which was perfect as it was getting cold in Boca. For some reason, they went on late which made little sense as they were sitting in a SIR truck which was next to the stage waiting to go on.

TTB was on fire. Just saw them in October (the show Modeski came out to jam) and it was the worst I have ever seen the. But the show at Mizner was terrific. One of the best live bands to go see.

Mizner is a strange place for a festival. But there is a charm and intimacy about it and I hope they do not change the venue. Last year I had reserved seats. This year I paid extra to go for balcony seats which is the way to go. Tons of room to enjoy the show.

I felt like MMW, even though they are the bigger name, should have been on the small stage and Galactic should have been on the big stage. MMW as an improv trio is more intimate, it's tough for a big crowd 100 feet away getting into it. They don't move as much air. Galactic, as a bigger band would have gotten the sleepy afternoon crowd on their feet from the big stage.

We wandered up by the wine bar pavilion with a straight on view and earshot of the stage. I think a lot of people thought it was reserved area so there was plenty of room to dance around. If I go back next year, I will probably just go late for TTB. I can't not go see TTB when they are playing just down the road from me.
