Doctors: Sen. John McCain has brain tumor

WASHINGTON (AP) — Arizona Sen. John McCain has been diagnosed with a brain tumor after doctors removed a blood clot above his left eye last week, his office said in a statement Wednesday.

The 80-year-old Republican has glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer, according to doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. The senator and his family are reviewing further treatment, including a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.

“On Friday, July 14, Sen. John McCain underwent a procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot,” his office said in a statement.

The senator and chairman of the Armed Services Committee had been recovering at his Arizona home. His absence had forced Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to delay action on health care legislation.

In a statement, McConnell said: “John McCain is a hero to our Conference and a hero to our country. He has never shied from a fight and I know that he will face this challenge with the same extraordinary courage that has characterized his life. The entire Senate family’s prayers are with John, Cindy and his family, his staff, and the people of Arizona he represents so well.”

Doctors say McCain is recovering from his surgery amazingly well and his underlying health is excellent, according to the statement.

McCain was the GOP’s presidential nominee in 2008, when he and running mate Sarah Palin lost to Barack Obama. A Navy pilot, he was shot down over Vietnam and held as a prisoner for 5 ˝ years.

Scary he was almost President. Most Trump supporters do not consider McCain a factor or a positive force in the caucus anymore. He should resign at this point.

You are a piece of work.

While I never agreed with McCain's politics, his contributions to this country are far more than most. If you can bash him while supporting Trump, I must question what you think this country is all about. You appear more clueless every day.

John McCain is a good man, with integrity, makes Trump look like an inbred con-man sideshow barker.

I voted for him in Arizona, but mafia moll Napolitano won. I would have supported him for president in a heartbeat regardless of my vote. He is one of the few Republicans who has the huevos to call Trump on his bs.

Praying for a return to full health for Mr. McCain, and backing him for his last years of service to stay after Trump and navigate our country through this terrible and dire error in judgement.

McCain is 80 years old with brain cancer. He should retire and live out the rest of the time he has left, does he really need the aggravation of Capital Hill added onto him at this time, the fight of his life for the rest of his life?

It is not a question of will he be able to fulfill the requirements of his job, because he is tenacious enough to press on and do that, but why should he do it? He should opt for peace, privacy and happiness, cancer anywhere in the body is a wake up call, your body is out of balance, exposed to carcinogens from living in a polluted place. To get healthy things have to change metabolically.

I hope he chooses life and gets away from the Washington insanity. But he plans to return to DC ASAP.

WELL WISHES from his colleagues and friends.

What is the outlook?

Because they keep returning, glioblastomas are almost never cured, and the prognosis is poor. With treatment, the median survival — which means half of patients live longer than this, and half die sooner — is 12 to 18 months. 25 percent survive three to five years and beyond.”

Well said on all accounts Brer. While I'd love for Senator McCain to keep leading the charge against President Trump, at this point in his life, I'd rather he retire and make the most of his time as he sees fit. It's the responsibility of our country's citizens to insure the president doesn't get re-elected should they wish.

I have never been a John McCain fan as I don't agree with many of his policy positions and think he's way too hawkish and way too much a supporter for the military/industrial/congressional complex. His connections to the S&L crisis in the 1980's also left a bad taste in my mouth.

However, I am grateful for his military service and his most recent efforts at holding the Trump administration accountable for their misdeeds and collusion with Russia. It may in fact yet prove to be his finest hour and most honorable service to his country.

Also, I would not wish his diagnosis on anyone, even a politician I don't agree with. I wish him well and as a little amount of pain and suffering along the very difficult journey and challenge before him. Same for his family and friends...

X2. Goob vomits up alt-right slime. But hey, McCain was no war hero to Goob or the yam with a wig trailing putrefaction across the Oval Office carpet. They like people who WEREN'T captured, they hate to tell you.

John McCain is a hero and his commitment to public service is admirable and I hate it for him and his family to have to face this issue at his stage of his life.

As I'm often apt to do however, I wonder, this treatment he may elect to undergo to fight the cancer...what are the possibilities of eradicating it and meaningfully extending his life? I just think that somewhere, somebody needs to evaluate cases like these on a cost-benefit equation. He's lived a great life, he has accomplished more than most of us ever will. He is a great American. At the same time, we all die, you can't avoid it and when the reaper comes knocking he often forces his way in whether you want him to or not.
