That's right. He scored a big victory. Ford is not moving their plant to Mexico. They will keep it in Michigan.

https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/ford-cancels-1-6-billion-160903623.html

FLAT ROCK, Mich./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) said Tuesday it will cancel a planned $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million at a Michigan factory, after President-elect Donald Trump had harshly criticized the Mexico investment plan.

Ford will add 700 jobs at the Flat Rock plant, Fields said, to cheers from union workers gathered at the factory for the announcement

Remarks: He's Making America Great Again!

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say this is positive news and a win for the Pres-Elect.

On stand-by to read all the comments from Obama and Clinton supporters about why this is terrible for America.

If companies see broad-based reforms that improve the conditions of doing business in the US, and stay here because of that, then it will be a winning strategy.

On the other hand, if we get into individual deal-making to keep some large news-worthy companies in place, then we're back to the same old crony capitalism that's been plaguing our success for years now.

Seems like Ford's decision is based on the belief that the former will happen. I hope so.

http://fortune.com/2017/01/03/ford-cancels-mexico-plant-trump/?xid=gn_edito rspicks&google_editors_picks=true

Ford CEO Mark Fields called the move "a vote of confidence" in Trump, but primarily a response to a decline in North American demand for small cars like those that would have been made at the Mexican plant. He said Ford would have made the same decision even if Trump had not been elected.

Fields praised tax and regulatory proposals advocated by Trump and his fellow Republicans who control Congress.

"Our view is that we see a more positive U.S. manufacturing business environment under President-elect Trump and the pro-growth policies and proposals that he's talking about, so this is a vote of confidence for President-elect Trump and some of the policies that they may be pursuing," Fields said.

Agree.

Unfortunately that will probably be SOP for Trump - that and bragging / rubbing things in on his twitter account.

Companies who keep, grow or initiate jobs in America = winning.
Companies who outsource US labor or utilize lower cost foreign labor for goods or service sold in the US = losers.

That I'm fine with government implementing policy to make more winners in that vein.

However, we are well beyond the time that the administration needs actual policy and standards for companies to operate by.

I'm sure you know how I feel on the sentiment of the tweet yesterday regarding Chevy Cruzes built in Mexico for sale here (that could use it's own thread). Agree or dispute the circumstances or benefits/negative impacts of that, Trump needs to form policy, guidelines, real rules of the road rather than random threats here or there without addressing the big picture.

Naturally I like where he is coming from, but I'm not sure yet where he is going. It's time for crafting of policy and legislation to serve as the means to the end.

No argument here. As much as I dislike Trump, if he can actually keep businesses here I will be more than happy to give him credit. I really do hope this happens. However, I'm going to look at the big picture and not get too excited about 1 or 2 high profile companies that Trump can Tweet about. I'm also going to withhold any praise for Trump on these issues until after he actually takes office and and these company decisions are made due to actual policy. So far, I'm not seeing any reason to get too excited.
