Next week will be the first of four. Held here in NY at Hofstra University, it should be good. The topics were just released.

NBC's Lester Holt, the moderator of the first presidential debate, which is next week, on Monday announced the topics to be discussed during the much-anticipated event. The three topics to be discussed during the debate, held at Hofstra University in New York, will be "America's Direction," "Achieving Prosperity," and "Securing America," per a release from the Commission on Presidential Debates.

The debate format calls for six 15-minute time segments, and each of the topics will take up two of the six time slots. The debate will start at 9 p.m. next Monday and will run for 90 minutes without any commercial interruption.

Trump, in a phone interview Monday with "Fox and Friends," said he has found debate moderator Lester Holt of NBC to be fair, but if he isn't "I have a set of things that I'll be doing." He didn't elaborate. We all remember how bad it got with Megyn Kelly and that debate, let us hope things go better this time.

See the last paragraph of post quoted. Big bad macho guy talking smack before he even sets foot on the stage. Trump needs to be treated just as any other candidate in previous presidential debates - no better; no worse. He needs to be reined in if he goes out of control. I guess it would be asking too much for him to perform out of his natural persona & be civil for a debate? It would nice to see a real exchange of ideas without him lowering himself to use of nicknames and his filth such as "there was blood coming out of her wherever". Of course, Trump trash talked Megyn K. after the debate, as he criticizes anyone and everyone who don't find him realistic - the generals, Colin Powell, Robert Gates, and a list that goes on.

Re: Trump's comment about the debate moderated by Megyn K. - Trump didn't like facts being stated to him, and he retaliated in his typical arrogant & nasty ways.

I don't expect Trump to stay under control because he will need to overcompensate for his lack of substance & knowledge on issues. And the fallback are his strengths which are really weaknesses - demagoguery and personal character attacks.

Interesting perspective. Do you consider demagoguery and personal attacks to be weaknesses in any political candidate, or just Donald Trump?

Trump has taken it to a new level.

They all do it, but Trump lives it.

I doubt even you could argue the point that is Trump's modus operandi. Then again, you probably would argue it for the sake. He insulted his fellow primary candidates repeatedly - very big of him. His use of nicknames for his opponents, talking about Carly Fiorina's face, and talking about hand size is quite impressive for a presidential candidate. It shows his in-depth knowledge of the issues, right? Donald covers it all.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the debates -- "all bun & no burger" comes to mind -- candidates are more concerned about appearance than debating -- they're drilled by a team of 'experts' how to best come across on TV

they seldom reveal anything new, less the occasional quips such as Walter Mondale saying "where's the beef" -- Ronald Reagan saying "there you go again" -- Gerald Ford w/his famous blunder about the Polish people being free etc etc

If we've learned anything this election cycle, it is that this election cycle is anything but normal. I really wish Gary Johnson was going to be at the first one, but not surprised he isn't considering who control the process.

Presidential debates update: Trump cries foul; debate topics announced; when, what time are the debates
by Debbie Lord, Cox Media Group National Content Desk
4 hours ago
With less than a week before the first presidential debate, Republican nominee Donald Trump is claiming the system is rigged against him.
Trump told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that he feels the moderator of the first debate, NBC’s Lester Holt, is being pressured to ask him tough questions because "Today Show" host Matt Lauer was criticized for seeming to go easy on Trump in a town hall-type event earlier this month.
"Matt was very tough on me, and he was tough on her (Hillary Clinton). But I think he was equally tough, maybe even tougher on me. And they really hit him because I won that debate," Trump told O’Reilly.
"What they’re doing is they’re gaming the system, like gaming the ref," he said. "Lester’s a professional, but we’ll see what happens. I mean, I think it’s unfair. I think it’s unfair what they’re doing, …" Trump said.
Trump and Clinton will have their first debate, organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, on Monday, Sept. 26 in Hempstead, N.Y.
Meanwhile, the topics for next week’s debate were announced Monday. The topics, chosen by Holt, are, "America's Direction," "Achieving Prosperity," and "Securing America," according to a release from the CPD.
The format for the first debate calls for six 15-minute time segments. Two 15-minute segments will focus on each of the topics.
The debate begins at 9 p.m. ET and runs for 90 minutes without commercial interruption.
Debate notes:
The other two debates will be held on Oct. 9 and Oct. 19.
Libertarian Gary Johnson and Jill Stein of the Green Party will not be onstage for the first debate. They failed to make the cut based on their polling results.
Moderators for the second debate are ABC News' Martha Raddatz and CNN's Anderson Cooper. Fox News' Chris Wallace will moderate the third debate.
CBS News’ Elaine Quijano will moderate a vice presidential debate between Illinois Gov. Mike Pence and Sen. Tim Kaine, (D-Va.), on Oct. 4.
The debates will take place in:
1st - Hofstra University is hosting a Viewer's Guide to Televised Debates, which will offer tips for viewing the debate critically and provide a guide how to be media literate while watching the presidential debates. (hofstra.edu/Debate).
Vice presidential debate - Longwood University
2nd - Washington University in St. Louis
3rd - University of Nevada, Las Vegas
According to the CPD
Before the debate:
Facebook and Google will be providing data to the moderators in the weeks leading up to the debates on what people are searching and saying about the election, the candidates, and the issues. Other technology platforms will be engaged in this effort as well including Google, #CollegeDebate16, and many other social media grassroots organizations.
PBS NewsHour together with technology partner Microsoft have created an interactive, civic education site (WatchTheDebates.org) that allows users to access every general election debate since 1960, screen entire debates or debate highlights and track how candidates have addressed specific issues in the debates over the years. Users can react to the debates and compare their responses with others through a unique interactive experience.
During the Debate:
Facebook, the exclusive social media sponsor for the first and third presidential debates, will be on site at the debate host universities. Members of the media, students, and the campus community will be using Facebook Live to broadcast and show what is happening at the debate site. People on Facebook in the U.S. and around the world will be able to watch these videos live, ask questions and comment with their reactions. Facebook will also have an interactive touch screen to show the conversation on Facebook about the candidates and the issues.
Snapchat will be covering each debate on-site via a "Live Story." These Live Stories will allow users on Snapchat to experience the debates from the many different perspectives of students from the debate host universities, volunteers, media and many others. These compilations of Snaps are designed to encourage the conversation long after each debate is over.
Viewers will also be able to watch live streams of the debates. Some of the websites and platforms that will feature debate live streams are: ABC News, Buzzfeed News, CBS News, CNN, C-SPAN, The Daily Caller, Facebook, Fox News, Hulu, Huffington Post, NBC, PBS, Politico, Telemundo, The Wall Street Journal, Twitter, Univision, Yahoo, YouTube.

Really???? Matt was a pussy plain and simple. He was much softer on Trump. Trump also spent a disproportionate amount of time criticizing HC and Obama since the Birther King thinks he is running against both.

And for the record, this was not a debate. How could it be when your opponent was not on the stage at the same time? It's amazing the things he will say. Bet lots of his voters would agree that he won the "debate".

And next week's "debate" will probably be a Trump interruption and arrogance fest.

I don't think Lauer was tough on Trump. That was the critique. He didn't challenge Trump.

For a macho guy Trump is really a baby. If he doesn't get treated right he won't play.

Trump either lied again or is wrong on the facts again. Take your pick. Then again, he conflates facts and lies regularly.

Donald is pulling out all the stops for this one. Profiling Hillary and her gestures and responses. “They think this psychological profile can predict how she’ll respond based on her body language and other stuff, and to tune Trump in to recognize and leverage that.
