Gregg's growl is so distinctive it oughta be trademarked, and his playing is what's inside of him. I think if you had said 'temporary replacement' or substitute it might be a little better. Jimmy Hall is a fine singer, Chuck and Jimmy Hall would definitely fill in some spots there, as to Dickey, well I am not exactly objective abb-out that, but I will say his talent is STILL there, once it's there, it is there, as to how he would feel about it or anything else, somebody would have to ask him.
