Obama’s pal Erdoğan, President of Turkey may be out of a job if he is still alive

Attempted military coup underway in Turkey

Published July 15, 2016 - FoxNews.com

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/07/15/attempted-military-coup-underway-in -turkey.html

Turkey's military announced on Friday night that army had taken over “the entire management of the country to restore rule of law” as the country's prime minister admitted an “attempt” by a group within the military while falling short of calling it a military coup.

Reuters, citing a witness, reported that gunshots were heard in Ankara shortly before 11 p.m. local time Friday.

As military helicopters flew over the entertainment hub of Beyoglu district in Istanbul, television aired footage of military tanks and TV stations reported Turkish state TV TRT had been taken over by military officials.

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım told Haberturk TV that an “attempt” had been made against the government and warned “those who carry out this attempt will be subjected to heaviest punishment.”

Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag also spoke on national TV, calling on “everyone to raise their voices against this attempt by the military and to embrace democracy.”

Ahmet Yayla of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism posted an image on Twitter of military vehicles on the streets of Ankara.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties, though local media reported that ambulances were seen in front of Turkish military headquarters.

Photos emerged on Twitter showing at least two military vehicles parked in front of Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, which was attacked by Islamist militants last month.

Meanwhile, NTV reported that both bridges across the Bosphorus strait, which separates Europe and Asia, had been closed to traffic. Video footage showed the bridge being blocked by military vehicles.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

http://www.dailysabah.com/nation/2016/07/16/us-media-claims-ties-between-gu len-clinton

U.S.-based news website has claimed the movement of former imam Fethullah Gülen, who is wanted on charges of terrorism in Turkey, was in close contact with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to the latter's personal email records.

The arch conservative Daily Caller referred to emails disclosed by Judicial Watch, a conservative foundation that was behind a lawsuit over Clinton's use of a personal email account for official correspondence while serving as secretary of state. A 2009 message by Gökhan Özkök, an alleged Gülenist, asked Clinton's then deputy chief of staff Huma Abedin to arrange a meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, a former secretary-general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, during a visit by Obama to Turkey. The Daily Caller claims Özkök was among donors to Clinton's past campaigns as well as board member of a Gülen-linked foundation and businesses, and a meeting between İhsanoğlu and Obama did take place.

Another link between the two, according to the Daily Caller, is a Gülen-affiliated group that hired a lobbying firm that worked for Clinton. It says the Alliance For Shared Values hired the Clinton-connected Podesta Group to lobby Congress on its behalf.

The same website claimed last year that Gülen's followers donated to Clinton's various political campaigns with individual donations of up to $1 million.

Comment: Don't ask me what it means. Mighta just been a coincidence.

P.S. The dude behind the failed coup is living in the US right now in Pennsylvania!

http://www.dailysabah.com/investigations/2016/07/16/gulens-extradition-proc ess-in-final-stage

Turkey will soon formally apply for the extradition of the shady, retired imam Fethullah Gülen from the United States after the chief Prosecutor's Office readied the file on his and his followers' illegal activities. They are blamed for two coup attempts in 2013. The file was presented to the Justice Ministry, which in turn will use it for an extradition request from the United States.

Gülen has lived in the United States since he migrated there health reasons in 1999, and he lives resides in a large compound in Pennsylvania.

He is accused of running the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ), a complex group consisted of his followers who infiltrated the judiciary, bureaucracy, law enforcement and military. Apart from coup attempts, the FETÖ is accused of fraud, money laundering, illegal wiretapping, blackmail and imprisoning hundreds of people with false evidence. He and dozens of prominent Gülenists face life sentences on terrorism charges.

Gülen and his followers are already standing trial in separate cases, but Gülen, 75, refuses to testify in Turkish courts or return to Turkey.

The former imam also faces lawsuits brought by Ankara in the United States after Turkey hired a law firm for the legal process in that country.

The United States is among the favorite locations of Gülenists where they run several charter school chains, taxpayer-funded schools that attracted an FBI probe following allegations of fraud concerning federal grants. Along with Gülen, several well-known figures linked to the group live in the United States to avoid being charged in ongoing investigations against the FETÖ in Turkey.

There seems to be quite a bit of differing opinions on who is behind it, and who started it.

The NATO Secretary General just contacted the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu and said that NATO will stand behind them.

The General Manager of Al Araibya has an opinion I have not heard anywhere else. Very subtely suggesting that the Muslim Brotherhood may in some way be involved with this attempt.

CNN is out there, I presume there will be some footage shortly. The Iranians want to reassure people the coup has been put down.

http://presstv.ir/Detail/2016/07/15/475362/Turkey-gunfire-Ankara-terror-att ck

Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News quoted Erdogan as telling CNN Turk that the US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen was to blame for the attempted coup. “We will not leave the ground to them,” Erdogan further said, vowing to end the “occupation” by the “minority group”.

REMARKS: The cleric in question, as mentioned earlier is in the US in Pennsylvania so he will have to be extradited back to Turkey, he is 75. Will there be repercussions here?

The US based cleric, Gulen denies any involvement in the coup attempt.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/us-based-cleric-gulen-says-categoricall y-denies-coup-role-charges/ar-BBuoQjj?li=BBnbcA1

"I condemn, in the strongest terms, the attempted military coup in Turkey," Gulen said in a statement. "As someone who suffered under multiple military coups during the past five decades, it is especially insulting to be accused of having any link to such an attempt. I categorically deny such accusations."

https://www.yahoo.com/news/turkish-president-says-hes-control-coup-falterin g-071351073.html?ref=gs

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said 161 people were killed and 1,440 wounded in the violence, and 2,839 plotters were detained. A source at the office of the presidency, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with government rules, said the toll of 161 “excludes assailants” — which could mean the death toll is much higher.

Still, the government pressed ahead Saturday with a purge of judicial officials, with 2,745 judges being dismissed across Turkey for alleged ties to Gulen. Ten members of Turkey’s highest administrative court were detained and arrest warrants were issued for 48 administrative court members and 140 members of Turkey’s appeals court, state media reported.

REMARKS: So, rogue elements in the military wanted to take over the govt. and then use Gulen as a smokescreen. It is good if he was not involved, because IF he was, he would have to be deported from the US. He's residing in Pennsylvania now. Pennsylvania, the location of the Democratic National Convention, where a clandestine operation could be launched in protest of the US ousting the cleric, Muslims angry that their mentor gets deported. But the real the intent would be to disrupt the convention and try to claim there are Muslims attacking our democracy.

Hey, that $1 million donation was made to the Clinton Foundation as a thank you for him being able to meet with Obama and discuss Islamic peacemaking efforts, so they would tie that in, throw Hillary under the bus and say she was using the office of the State Dept. for purposes that assisted terrorists. (radical groups who initiate coups against foreign govts.) When they wanna screw you, they will go to extraordinary means. Hillary may be getting burned by her own govt. without even knowing it. Coincidences usually aren't coincidences.

Thankfully, the Turkish administration put down the coup, and thwarted the efforts of whoever helped to start that. Given their geographical proximity to Iran, it is a good thing. The Operation Clean Break neocons will just have to wait a little longer to destabilize the Middle East.

The US has lost it's airbase use in Turkey from which it was launching attacks on Isis in Syria.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/16/isis-airstrike-turkey-airspac e-us-air-force

Christopher Harmer, a former navy officer turned analyst for the Institute for the Study of War, said loss of access to Incirlik would place a “significant” strain on the air war if it lasted beyond four days, as the strain of constant flight-deck operations would then eat into scheduled rests for maintenance and fueling.

“A 48- to 72-hour disruption shouldn’t have a big impact, but if it’s longer than 96 hours it’s going to have a big impact and the longer it lasts the bigger the impact,” Harmer said.

AND Erdogan is demanding the cleric that is exiled and living in the US.

AFTERMATH - Turkey considering implementing the death penalty, world leaders have asked them not to. They still have many people detained for working with those plotting to overthrow the govt.

http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2016/07/18/Erdogan-to-cons ider-reinstating-death-penalty-.html

News channels also reported the number of police removed from duty stood at 8,777, amid what is seen as a purge of state structures. Turkey also detained a total of 103 generals and admirals, state media said. 3,000 judges and prosecutors who had sometimes blocked Erdogan's requests were also purged. On Monday, Ankara sacked 1,500 financial ministry staff believed to have ties to US-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen and his network of supporters.

Aftermath 7.20.16

Turkey will remain in a State of Emergency for three months to settle issues raised during the failed coup attempt.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/turkish-leader-declares-state-of-emerge ncy-after-failed-coup/ar-BBuzSiA?li=BBnbcA1

6.000 were jailed after the coup attempt. Cracking down on alleged subversives in education, Turkey also said Wednesday that it would close more than 600 private schools and dormitories following the attempted coup, spurring fears that the state's move against perceived enemies is throwing key institutions in the NATO ally into disarray.

Erdogan's government said it has fired nearly 22,000 education ministry workers, mostly teachers, taken steps to revoke the licenses of 21,000 other teachers at private schools and sacked or detained half a dozen university presidents in a campaign to root out alleged supporters of a U.S.-based Muslim cleric blamed for the botched insurrection on Friday

In other moves against education, Turkey demanded the resignations of 1,577 university deans and halted foreign assignments for state-employed academics. A total of 50,000 civil service employees have been fired in the purges, which have reached Turkey's national intelligence service and the prime minister's office. The government has also revoked the press credentials of 34 journalists. Authorities have rounded up about 9,000 people - including 115 generals, 350 officers, 4,800 other military personnel and 60 military high school students - for alleged involvement in the coup attempt. Turkey's defense ministry has also sacked at least 262 military court judges and prosecutors, according to Turkish media reports.

REMARKS: So it is not just back to business as usual when this happens to a country.

It is very interesting how they are cleaning up their country. I also like the fact that the President invited the people to come out and help save their country. If something like that happened here, we would be told, stay in your houses, martial law is being implemented. Other nations are not afraid of their people. They like their citizens and care about them and do not want their way of life destroyed or taken away from them. Erdogan probably did not realize how much people had infiltrated the infastructure of the country. During the coup, he was willing to take on his own military and fight against them, he arrested the Chief of the Military, though he was released about 9 hours later. I hope he ends up with a stronger, more secure country.

Nephew of the cleric accused of masterminding the coup attempt in Turkey has been arrested.

Turkish security forces have arrested a nephew of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen who is blamed for masterminding last weekend’s failed military coup. Muhammad Saitd Gulen was arrested in the northeastern city of Erzurum on Saturday and will be sent to the capital, Ankara, for questioning, local media reported.

Aftermath 7.25.16

Turkey issues arrest warrants for journalists.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/25/turkey-issues-arrest-warrants -42-journalists-attempted-coup

Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for 42 journalists as part of an inquiry into alleged plotters of the failed coup, drawing harsh criticism from human rights groups. But Erol Önderoğlu, the Turkey representative for Reporters without Borders, said the latest arrest warrant was an unjustifiable “witch hunt against journalists”.

“It is impossible to find out if a journalist was involved in a serious way with the Gülen network or involved in the coup attempt by using such methods,” said Önderoğlu, as five of the journalists were reportedly taken into custody for questioning. “We recognise the government’s right to investigate the coup plotters, of course, but to respect the right to freedom of expression is one defining principle of a democracy. This is turning into a witch-hunt against journalists that needs to stop.”

One of the journalists targeted by Monday’s arrest warrant is believed to be Fatih Yağmur, an investigative journalist who was fired from his job at the now defunct Radikal daily in 2014 because of what his editors said was “very intense government pressure”. The newspaper had published his report on trucks owned by the Turkish Intelligence Agency that transported weapons to Syria via Turkey without knowledge of the Turkish parliament, a story for which Yağmur was honoured with the EU Investigative Journalism Award 2015.

Speaking to the Guardian via telephone he said that he had left the country after the coup attempt last Friday because he started to receive a torrent of violent threats via social media, including threats of rape and death threats. It is not the first time. After the publication of his articles on the arms trucks he received similar threats.

“I fear for my life, I do not feel safe in Turkey. I do not intend to return before the state of emergency is lifted,” Yağmur said. He said that he was briefly detained at the border for having missed the hearing of a trial against him on charges of insulting the president. Turks fear for detained soldiers as Erdoğan launches fresh crackdown. “I spent the night in a cell with 40 soldiers, all of whom showed signs of torture, bruises and bloody wounds. They were not allowed to go to the toilet either. It was terrible. Because I saw this, I do not feel safe. I witnessed torture here.”

REMARKS: A reporter is arrested after showing links between the Turkish Intelligence Agency and some of the trucks that transport weapons to Syria without the knowledge of Parliament. He is arrested under investigation of having something to do with the coup. The tactics of harassament and intimidation seem to be globally applied, in countries where democracy exists, that should not be happening.

The Turkish justice minister says the Ankara government is receiving intelligence that US-based opposition cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom it accuses to have orchestrated the July 15 failed coup attempt, could flee his residence in the northern US state of Pennsylvania amid speculations of his extradition.

Bekir Bozdag told privately-owned Turkish-language Haberturk television news network on Thursday that the 75-yerar-old could flee to Australia, Mexico, Canada, South Africa or Egypt, which do not have extradition treaties with Turkey.

Separately, Turkish security forces have arrested Arda Akin (seen below), a reporter of Hurriyet daily newspaper, as part of the government’s massive crackdown following the July 15 botched putsch.

On Wednesday, scores of media outlets, including three news agencies, 45 newspapers, 16 television channels, 23 radio stations, 15 magazines and 29 publishing houses, were ordered shuttered.
