My favorite player as a kid, Guy Lafleur. Notice he doesn't have a helmet on but two defenders behind him do. This must have been when the league enacted the helmet rule but "grandfathered" in any current players at the time, giving them the choice of wearing or not wearing a helmet.

Doyle Alexander. The Tigers acquired him in a mid summer trade in 1987 straight up for a Double A pitcher by the name of John Smoltz. People think I am nuts but I think it was worth it. Alexander was lights out for Detroit going 9-0 with a 1.53 ERA and pitching the Tigers to the playoffs. Detroit was so bad in the next several years that having Smoltz wouldn't have made them a contender anyway.

Al Kaline and Norm Cash.

Sad story about Norm. He fell off his dock on Beaver Island in Michigan in 1986 and drowned. Reports vary as to his state of being sober or not as he just left a bar on his boat. He was only 51.

That pic of Sonny Jurgenson & his favorite WR Tommy McDonald looks like it could've been taken yesterday -- great stuff -- Jean Claude Killy competed at Cannon back in the day -- Lew Burdette, a stud in the 57 WS

6-8 Eagles WR Harold Carmichael -- also tremendous shots of Satchel Page in the 7th Wonder of the World, as the Astrodome was known -- those great Negro League shots -- thanks as always

Hank Greenberg

.313 Average
331 Home Runs
1,276 RBIs
2 MVPs
4 Home Run Championships

Stats would have been even better except he devoted a lot of time to the military.

Charlie Gehringer

The Tigers retired their numbers 2 (Gehringer) and 5 (Greenberg) on the same day.

I have this card. 1933 Goudey. I also have his autograph on a 3x5 index card. I am going to frame them together.

Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski the man we call Yaz (We love him)
G D7 G
Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski what power he has!

D7
Ah, our Boston team is always on the beam, cause we got Yaz
We Fenway fans we stop and clap our hands at Yaz's jazz
Those rival pitchers on the mound all shake
They dread each windup that they have to make
When number eight is at the plate,
and then he swings, and wow there it goes again

and wow there it goes again, and wow there it goes again

A rival batter hits one off the wall
And there's Yastrzemski going for the ball
They try for two, the runner knows he's through
Look at Yaz, wow he threw him out again

Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski the man we call Yaz (We love him)
Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski, Carl Yastrzemski he's the idol of Boston, Mass

On Beacon hill, he gives 'em quite a thrill
In Southie too there's lots of 'whooptee-doo'
In the North End they call Carl friend, and they hope the season will never end

From Wellsey way they come to watch him play
And on Cape Cod they take a holiday
From all above they come to shout,
"You know for Yaz, the hit was out!'

The state of Maine is going quite insane
And in Vermont it's only Yaz they want
From every state, they come to wait
To Yastrzemski at home plate

Our Boston team, it's always on the beam, cause we got Yaz
We Fenway fans we stop and clap our hands at Yaz's jazz
Although Yastrzemski is a lengthy name, it fits quite nicely in the hall of fame
We love him so, in Boston we all know that when he swings, (Yeah!) here we go again!

Yaz was always known as kind of an introvert, weird guy. One of my good friends can't stand the Red Sox yet Yaz is his favorite player of all time.

Yaz is my favorite Rex Sox player. Got to see him at Tiger Stadium at the end of his career when they moved him to first base.

Yaz's 12.4 WAR in 1967 was the highest total for a position player not named Babe Ruth. What a season; and one has to wonder where the voter is who gave Cesar Tovar the only first place MVP vote not received by Yaz is today

Munson was a GAMER.

I still remember where I was when I heard about his airplane crash.

A buddy of mine and I just happened to discuss Thurman's passing the other day and we both said the same thing; we remember it. I was 10 and on a family camping trip. I was listening to the Tigers game on the radio and they broke the news. Not sure why I remember that so vividly, but I do.
