its too bad we dont have any more hockey fans around here. Used to be a fun site during the playoffs with 8 or 9 people contributing.

Caps surprised me with impressive come back. Ovechkin played a great series Can they take the Penguins

Leafs are playing with lots of luck. Bruins are dominating but cannot score. Rick Nash continues to be a playoff bust. He had so many chances last night and could not bury the puck. the guy is a super player but cannot finish and I cannot figure that out. As a Ranger fan i can relate to this.

Anything can happen in a game 7 and right now Anderson is outplaying Tuka who does not look comfortable.

We started fast w/2 dominant games, then it was them
No Patrice, in Toronto, everyone thought they’d tie series 2-2 — they didn’t
Patrice back, playing for series in Boston, stoked to nines, every reason to believe a celebration at end of game — nope

we felt good about things in 2013 up 3-1 — suddenly 3-3, losing 4-1 in 3rd period of 7th game, celebration underway in Tor, unbelievable — then, stopped on a dime

A Dead Heat — 37-37-1, the lifetime record of B’s-Leafs playoff games going into tonite —

One Team Is Not Better Than The Other, the record proves that — biggest difference, once team elated, the other depressed after 2nite — outcome no different tonite than 5 yrs ago — BROONZ

I think Boston is built better for the grind of the playoffs. Leafs just dont have the guys that get bodies to the net which is what wins many playoff games. They are undersized and more of a finesse team. If Anderson did not dominate Tukka in the series, it would have been over much quicker IMO.

I love the speed of Toronto defense--they need a little more size but they can really skate and move the puck.

What a first night of the second round. Pens comeback, Vegas 7-0. What's up with that?

Vegas is playing great hockey. Dont understand why Sharks did not even show up last night. I picked Vegas but do not think it will be easy.

Caps are tough to figure. Without Malkin playing, taking a 2-0 lead and Holtby playing lights out they somehow lost. Tough to figure. Still think this will be a long tough series.

I think Preds will round into form in 2nd round and take care of Jets.

Boston-Tampa s/b very close on Tukka keeps playing poorly in which case Tampa will win in 5 or 6 IMO.

B's over TB
Gotta figure Pitts over Wash, playoffs are their time as we saw last night -- Malkin apparently will be back sometime this series

SJ over LV -- if after 3 months his knee hasn't recovered enough to be these games, wonder if Joe T might call it quits after this season -- LV looks like no fluke -- LAK goalie Jonathan Quick played out of his head against them, yet a sweep --

no way to pick Nshvl-Wnpg -- I'll take Jets -- this one and Broonz-TB are the real semifinals (top 4 teams) -- yet could still be a Pitts-LV final

Holy crap is the league ever going to do something about Tom Wilson. He has carte blanche to destroy anything in his path.

If he hit Crosby like those other hits he would be suspended for a minimum of 10 games but zero suspension for what he did. And not even a 2 minute penalty.

What a shame. The league sucks!!!!

You picked it fensranger (altho not directly b/c of Tuukka) -- they were the better team & deserved to win -- just surprising & disappointing we didn't extend em more --
the difference between them us & Tor is minimal-to-invisible -- but sure enough, TB was 1st, us 2nd & Leafs 3rd most of season -- & that's how it shook out postseason -- it was an awesome season, no shame

when it's the top 2 in the 7th game -- isn't that the height of it? Loser will go home knowing they're head & shoulders above teams still in it -- Just As B's Are
rooting for Jets, if not in Boston the Cup belongs in Canada, not Fla & for sure not LV

Wouldn't mind if any of the 4 teams reaming won the cup. Am rooting for Vegas because that would be cool.

So the lines are out on the series. Vegas is only - 130. God I hope they lose. I think Buttman (the commish) handed them a team. They don't look like an expansion team to me.

Wonder if the hotel strike would affect series -- big advntg for LV -- their visitors would have to go thru picket lines to get to their hotel "welcome to the strip"

looks like the Craps are finally going to win. They are playing great hockey, solid goaltending and most importantly getting Puck Luck. Always hated them as a Rangers fan but i guess Ovechkin deserves it finally. He has become a 2 way player over past few years and you have to respect the guy.

Very boring series as Vegas has truly been outplayed in all but game 1 as their defense and goaltending has eroded and they look like an average team.

Craps have outplayed everyone in their run and deserve the win. They beat Pens, and Tampa Bay which IMO were the other top teams.

RIP Johnny "Pie" McKenzie -- not very big, but still among the biggest & baddest of Big Bad Bruins -- Stanfield, Bucyk & McKenzie -- Pie was flat-awesome -- the Boston Herald last week published a tastefully-done article saying Johnny was on his last legs --
Thanks for the great memories, Pie

Pie's linemates, Fred Stanfield & perennial Lady Byng candidate Johnny Bucyk, were not fighters
Johnny, then, had more than his share of scrapes -- he was a Stan Jonathan before his time -- 5-8 or 5-9, but strong as a bull, partly from working off seasons as a cowboy in the rodeo early in his career -- he'd tie up the other guy, wait him out & clobber him. or wrestle him to the ice like one of those calves

This is from Gerry Cheevers' 1971 book "Goaltender"
"Pie is high on my list of good guys. He's 33 years old & has paid his dues ... when he was struggling early in his career he turned to calf-roping in the offseason in the Alberta foothills south of Calgary. He figured it would keep him in shape for hockey & maybe he'd pick up a few bucks at rodeos. But when the Bruins got him (in a trade from NY for Roughhouse Reggie Fleming), they demanded first call on Pie's contusions and abrasions. They made him quit the cowboy game"

This is from Cheesie's later book, "Unmasked," from 2011
"He fit the persona of our Bruins teams to the hilt.....We were at the end of a long road trip, and Johnny & I went in for a massage in Montreal. We had this big strapping Danish guy rubbing us down. He asks Johnny, 'What do you do?'

"Johnny replies 'I'm a hockey player'. Johnny is built like an upside-down pyramid. He has a tremendous body & the Danish guy says, 'oh I can see that, I can see that'
"Then it was my turn. He asks me 'what do you do?'
"I'm a hockey player" I tell him
"'Come on, what do you really do?' he asks
"My body wasn't impressive I guess"

there are numerous stories like that
when it comes to 1967-72 & the Bruins, it's for sure that "They Owned This Town"

Blackhawks are really playing bad - worst passing I have seen for a long time - they can't hold a lead and can't get the puck in the net - going to be interesting to see what they do in the off season...........

Firing Quenneville wasn't the answer, they're struggling & another bleak winter in the Windy City arena (sheet & hardwood)

all we can do is hope to hold water until Zdeno & Bergey, Carlo & McAvoy return -- Moore, who we got in the McQuaid trade, is also shelved -- Adam was great, esp when paired w/Torey Krug -- 9 solid years w/the B's -- at least he's still w/an O6 team (NY)

every team in our div, esp Buff (W8) & Tor, has improved -- the top 3 teams, them & TB are also tops in NHL & could pull away fast -- Leafs have played well w/out Auston-not-Austin -- & the Sabiz!! no longer the Bills on skates, they're for real -- Fla, who I thought would be all the sh!t this year, hasn't been

it's always big to begin with -- 2nite in Montreal, to gain 4 pts in a back-to-back against O6 rivals is needed for momentum going into Dec.
Tuukka Will Be Playing, So We're In Good Shape -- yeah his record against Habs isn't good -- that puck will stop On A Dime 2nite however -- it's real big, even this early -- "pivotal" --

hoping to see puck threads pop up -- Broonz -- yeah our nucleus is nicked, it's still black & gold tho

Now it's Tor -- hadn't seen that -- all we want is to play 60 good minutes, make em work for it in a hostile atmosphere & let the chips fall where they might, win or lose -- it was hostile (chippy) last night -- 30 min each in penalties

wait tho -- after playing from behind the whole game, they tied it W/2 Seconds left, then won it in OT a couple minutes later
That Can Spark A Squad -- next for CHI-HAWKS, conf champion LVGK Tues -- still too early to be talking this bologna

Finally, ups to Joe Thornton -- with 1,304 assists, passed Mario Lemieux into 11th place all time -- Joe also scored his 400th goal just last week
Yeah he'll go into the HOF a SJ Shark
There's still a lotta Bruin in Joe tho, he's always said that

Flyers get spanked again the other night and now the GM , not the coach is out.

Really thought Hextall would bring in a really good goaltender. But alas ...
