So what do you all think of the idea of adding another wildcard team from each league to the playoffs? The plan is to add two wild card teams, one from each league, so the postseason pool increase from eight teams to 10. If approved for this season (which sounds like it will be), the wild card teams will meet in a one-game playoff, with the winner advancing to play in a best-of-five Division Series.
I'm not 100% sure yet (still need to find out how tie-breakers will work, might need a PhD to figure them out), but so far I think like it. A one-game do-or-die scenario should be exciting, and means the races in September will be a bit deeper, keeping more teams in the mix longer. Also gives more of an advantage/incentive to winning the division to avoid the extra game. Of course the teams that win the "traditional" wildcard spot this year probably won't like having to play/win the extra game to move on, but the answer for that is to win the division I guess.

Count me in as a huge fan of the expanded playoff format.
Got me the Royals pocket schedule today. They've expanded the "Premier Game" list of games that they jack up the ticket price for...they've added the Twins, Rangers and White Sox to the list.
Then they sent me yet another email telling me to buy at least a half season ticket package so I can have a "chance" at All Star game tix.
Whatever.

This is going to be a fun year for Tigers fans!
quote: Ryan Raburn leads Tigers in slugfest
By Tom Gage The Detroit News
Lakeland, Fla.— The Tigers have twice hit eight home runs in a game. That's their record.
Unless you're talking spring training.
They hit nine Sunday in their 18-3 spring-home opener against the Braves at windy — no, gusty — Marchant Stadium.
They weren't about to give any of them back, however, simply because of a little ol' breeze.
"Not my fault. I didn't tell the wind to blow," laughed Prince Fielder, whose mammoth blast to right hit the light tower where the light tower might never have been hit before.
"Take it out of my check, if there's any damage," he said.

The games have not yet even begun, but thank you MLB for exposing a previously unheard-of medical malady, one that only comes to the fore via MLB
"Valley Fever"
valley fever????????????
Actually I had valley fever once -- as a kid, when I watched Valley of the Dolls, with Jane Fonda -- it was my first "fever of the valley" I think -- no, the girl washing the car in Cool Hand Luke --?
well it's in the morning paper -- "Mets' Bob Davis says he's ready to play despite being diagnosed with valley fever, a fungal infection released from the dirt in desert regions of the Southwest that can cause extreme fatigue."
the same blurb had the usual other terms, for instance "David Wright will sit for a bit because of soreness around his left ribcage"
"soreness around his left ribcage" -- sure thing
translation, "Guaranteed Contract" -- won't lift a finger if he doesn't feel like it & neither do most of the others
SOO, bring on the strained obliques, the bicep tendinitis, sore calf, sore quad, bilateral leg weakness, hyperextended neck, sprained knuckle, anterior shoulder soreness, concussion-like symptoms, flu-like symtoms, soreness of the pinkie finger, strain of the posterior shoulder capillary -- & that's far from all of it

valley fever in its true medical form can become quite serious...having said that
Play Ball....go Bravos
And my favorite valley fever was definitely the Cool Hand Luke girl washing the car scene

Jane Fonda wasn't in Valley of the Dolls. Maybe you mean Sharon Tate. Or maybe you mean Jane Fonda in Barbarella. Either way...wow!
Barbara Parkins, Sharon Tate, Patty Duke - Valley of the Dolls:

Jane Fonda - Barbarella:

And now back to baseball.....how 'bout them Tigers?!

P.S. Joy Harmon in Cool Hand Luke
