Lee - 7/31/2019 at 07:32 PM

Well all the teams are in camp. Anybody interested?

Lee - 7/31/2019 at 07:44 PM

Just saw this:

RIP Nick Buoniconti.

BIGV - 7/31/2019 at 07:55 PM

Being a lifelong Saints fan, that game took all of the wind out of my sails and I've yet to pay much attention. But I will, I'll be there come the opener...

Dark-horses:
1) Jacksonville / Nick Foles should elevate them with that Defense
2) Cleveland - Of course
3) Oakland
4) Tennessee

The Bottom:

1) NYG
2) AZ
3) Miami

Lee - 7/31/2019 at 09:42 PM

Jacksonville should be interesting.
Cleveland is certainly the doll.
Oakland I disagree with.
NYG I agree with. I wonder if they make a QB change during the season.
I think Miami might be okay. Not great by any means but not horrible.

Sadly, the Detroit Lions.

porkchopbob - 8/1/2019 at 08:32 PM

I'm pretty excited for the season. As a Packers fan, last season was a bit of a wash (who knew it would be the Bucks and Brewers featuring MVPs and nearly going the distance?), so I'm excited to see what LeFleur and a ton of fresh talent will bring to the table.

Lee - 8/2/2019 at 08:11 PM

Packers are 3 1/2 point dogs opening night. Not sure what I will do with that but since they have the hook (the extra half point) I think I would lean to them.

Ehhhh...
Clev could implode real quick with all of those personalities.
Oak . Not impressed with last year.Gruden overrated. We'll see.
Tenn Not sold on them .Mariota should have taken that next step by now to be an upper tier QB. He is hurt alot. It's time for him to do something or look for another QB.
Jacksonville will be interesting. I like Foles and I hope he does well, besides against Indy.

Go Colts!!!

Stephen - 8/3/2019 at 01:30 PM

Pats will be in the mix as always -- also Browns this year
Happy birthday TB12, at 42 a top-rated QB

nebish - 8/3/2019 at 07:17 PM

Alot of expectations on Cleveland this year. Favored to win the division and relatively short odds to win the AFC.

Lee - 8/4/2019 at 12:41 PM

I bet my buddy on two team total wins for the year. He was beating down Cleveland and Chicago. So the bet is both will win at least seven games. Definitely more confident in the Bears so we bet $50 on that. I can up it I think too.

To do what? Win a game? go 16-0? Depends on the bet. Win the division, no I doubt that. My bet was that they'd go 7-9. I believe they won seven last year.

Scoresandodds showing Cle and Pit co-favorites at 3-2 for division.

5dimes shows Cle favorite +140 to Pit +160.

I don't know about who among those two might win it. But I am pretty sure it won't be Baltimore or Cincy.

Lee - 8/11/2019 at 12:06 PM

That makes sense. On the surface. I never know what to do about Baltimore. I think it was good for them to part ways with Flacco. I think he has been overrated his whole career. So I wouldn't rule them out. Should be an interesting division race.

I'll still stick with Pittsburgh to win the division.

Lee - 8/12/2019 at 08:18 PM

I'm glad I'm not a Raider fan. I don't know what they were thinking taking on the headache that is Antonio Brown. This dude just gets weirder and weirder.

The Raiders have been a hot mess even when Al Davis was there. It all goes on ownership, there's clearly a problem with the culture there. They will sign anyone, there's a reason it's a last stop for veterans looking for one last pay check or desperate players willing to sign anywhere. They signed Richie Incognito.

But I'm sure everything will be completely legit. After the move to Nevada.

Indeed. I think Al Davis loved that stuff. And if you haven't, read the books by Ken Stabler and Jack Tatum. And if you can find any, watch an interview with Fred Belitnekoff. That stuff is pretty darn funny.

porkchopbob - 8/15/2019 at 02:11 PM

Cool list of the top 100 squads. Even includes a pre-merger pre-Super Bowl AFL squad (1962 Oilers), something the NFL would have you believe doesn't exist.

I think it was Warren Wells who spent time in prison; Otis Sistrunk (from the University of Mars) Drafting a punter (Ray Guy) in first round and making it one of the best draft picks ever (term hand time was invented for him) The Snake fumbling forward for a TD necessitating a rule change. Casper and Christensen at the forefront of changing TE into a WR like position. The Mad Stork. Blanda having an MVP type season at I believe it was the age of 42.

"JUST WIN BABY!"

Lee - 8/25/2019 at 12:03 PM

Andrew Luck retires right before the season starts. Maybe given his injuries it is warranted but how can he do it now? Supposedly loves the team, the city and the organization but it looks like he left them in the lurch. Right before the season is going to start?

It's not the best timing, but can't be helped if Luck's body said it was time. Luck was going to be out to start the season, but if his calf wasn't getting healthy, there was never any guarantee he would eventually get healthy enough to take the field. It certainly sounds like it's not the decision Luck wanted to have to make. Luckily the Colts are in the AFC South, often the worst division in the NFL, so there is still hope for Colts fans that their QB coach Frank Reich can fix the ship. And at least the team knows they won't need to spend any time waiting for Luck to return this season and can focus on other QBs.

emr - 8/26/2019 at 12:37 AM

The colts weren't angry. They had the right to withold money from Luck but let him have the total of his contract. They guy gave it his all; was great for a few seasons but injuries robbed him

porkchopbob - 8/26/2019 at 08:23 PM

quote:

Actually, since he's now retiring, Luck won't take a salary this season or receive any future bonuses that he was previously owed. The money they chose not to try to get back were bonuses he had already received. https://thebiglead.com/2019/08/24/andrew-luck-contract-details-are-straight forward/

Dude missed a whole season, and couldn't finish another season due to a lacerated kidney. Muscle and ligament damage football players come to expect, but when your organs start getting beaten, I'd probably take stock of the importance of the game as well.

Obviously it's disappointing for the franchise and most Colts fans continue to support their team. But I imagine Luck has no second thoughts about putting his body on the line for the fans that booed him for stepping away. How do the rest of the Colts players feel after some butt hurt fans try to return their season tickets?

Sang - 8/26/2019 at 08:41 PM

I have renewed the NFL Pick 'em leagues from last year. Last year there were only a few that played - it would be great to get a better showing and a little more competition ..... although I only do this to beat DanB ...

ABBWP - no spread, drops lowest 1 week score - group 28565 password butch

ABBSpread - spreads, drops lowest 1 week score - group 28564 password gregg

If you are new to the league, just go to https://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/register/joingroup and join a league - enter the group number and password above and you are in.

Join both or just 1 - invite your non-ABB member friends/family to play also - it's all for fun and bragging rights

[Edited on 8/27/2019 by Sang]

nebish - 8/27/2019 at 01:24 AM

I joined both. The link you had Sang took me to a fantasy football league thing. I went here to get in the pick'em leagues:

live in the Indy area and needless to say its been kinda crazy here the last few days. For about a second when I heard the news I was shocked/surreal feeling. But then I thought, can't blame him. It's sad, but I wish him the best.

I really liked him as a QB ,the way he played the game, the manner he conducted himself and etc...

This guy took an unholy.....UNHOLY beating here. I probably saw every snap he took during his time.
I told my wife and family during his 1st year and watching what was happening that the upper brass needs to invest in people to protect or they are going to ruin him.
He never flinched , always hopping back up after getting hit, sacked, pummeled to go right back at it and lead his team. He carried this franchise ,especially his first three years.

The fans that booed him were a very small portion of that crowd and should be ashamed. Every sports franchise has a small sector of the fan base that are delusional and that's what happened the other night.

Andrew is a smart guy and he made the right decision for himself.

Jacoby will take over now and we can only hope he can show us that this franchise will be in good hands like Andrew did 7 yrs ago taking over for Peyton.

4 is alright, but why doesn't Lee join? Or Bob? Jszfunk, Stephen?....What happened to Wharfrat, he used to always play these years ago didn't he? He is in the college pick'em. YOu have his email address to send him an invite Sang?

How about Andy - fensranger - JETS

I think I've posted this in prior years. I'm in cash leagues so I pay WAY more attention to those. And I don't need a ton of reminders from Yahoo. No big deal, I just think they are more fun.

Looks like the Bears fixed their FG kicking issues!

Great win for the Packers, who now hold the best record in the entire league

Defense looks great, they dumped a lot of dead weight in the off season. Offense is still finding their stride, especially the running game. I like what I see so far.

nebish - 9/6/2019 at 01:49 PM

I fell asleep. What happened to the was-supposed-to-be-great Bears offense?

Saw the deep pass Packers had in the first half to set up the TD. Outside of that I guess I didn't miss much.

Defensive battles can be just as exciting and Packers-Bears black & blue games are traditionally low-scoring, but it was sloppy at times (1st and 40?). If you like offense, the Cubs and Brewers each scored more than the Bears did last night. With teams holding back their assets in the preseason, the openers act as a tune up, which becomes more of an issue since the league began scheduling division games at the top of the season. I doubt Sunday will be any more elegant for younger teams.

I live in Chicago and haven't heard anything about a great offense. It's all their defense. But yes, their offense sucked big time.

Bob, I agree about some exciting defensive games and I agree that the game was sloppy. And ugly. One of the most boring games I have seen in a long time.

If the Raiders are so over Antonio Brown, will the XFL take a chance? Probably not for $30M.

My wife and I were just talking about this when we heard about it. My guess, speculation is someone in one of these leagues (whatever they are) might throw him a bone and offer maybe 1 million conditional bucks on the off chance that he keeps his nose clean. Although different situations, I equate it to Kapernick for the NFL. Does anyone really want to touch the mess?

The Raiders has been the "last stop" for players, either troubled (Incognito) or in their twilight, for a while now. His options will be incredibly limited, I doubt even the Vikings would touch him. Maybe Cincy?

Maybe he's crazy like a fox.

Yeah, makes you wonder. Here's a team and franchise with no real history of winning; too easily believing all the hype. Now comes the tough part, winning.

The Browns franchise had a significant history of winning through out the 40s-60s and, to a lesser extent, in the 80s. They were definitely over-hyped based on 1 ok season, but it's also only Week 1. There's a lot of football left.

The Golden Boy is still at it:

https://www.packersnews.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2019/09/12/packers-leg end-hornung-place-first-legal-sports-bet-casino/2300642001/

quote:
Thursday marked the opening of a sports book in Clark County, Indiana, a move that came after the state legalized sports betting on Sept. 1.

At Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth in Southern Indiana, former Green Bay Packers star Paul Hornung was set to place the ceremonial first wager, which is somewhat amusing when you consider Hornung's history with gambling.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer, 83, was the first overall pick in the 1957 NFL Draft and won four NFL championships with the Packers as the team's halfback and kicker.

He also was suspended from the NFL for the entire 1963 season for gambling.

According to Pro Football Talk, part of Hornung's agreement with then-NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle to get reinstated was to avoid any contact with football betting and stop traveling to Las Vegas. He also was barred from attending the Kentucky Derby, something he had done since childhood. He still lives in Louisville today, but he did play college football at Notre Dame in Indiana. Elizabeth is just across the Kentucky/Indiana border, just more than 20 miles from Louisville.

Paul Hornung's first bet at the new sports book service at Horseshoe Casino on Thursday afternoon was on the New Orleans Saints to win the Super Bowl

It's not deja vu, Eli Manning has been benched again. Looks like it's the end for him in East Rutherford. I wonder how Ben McAdoo is feeling today, he was probably right to sit Eli two years ago. NY fans and media are quick to loose patience and run players out of town, but are always faithful if they get championships. What a mixed legacy he will have - 2 Super Bowls against the top team of the era, but otherwise barely mediocre. Had his last name not been "Manning" I wonder if he would have been given as long of a rope.

Meanwhile, tough breaks for Pittsburgh and New Orleans. Always sucks to see QBs go down.

Now it’s the Bills, & the Sabiz In shouldah pads, they dontalook like as they brace for Brady & Pats
In A Matchup Of Unbeatens
when was the last time that happened - Bills a flash in the pan or real-dealio
TB passed Drew Brees for 2nd In career TD passes, leaving him 16 short of Peyton M’s all-time mark of 539

Packers should not have choked that game up. Packers could not run the ball. and Phila had 172 yrs rushing. Plenty of chance to win but could not seal the deal.

piacere - 10/7/2019 at 11:20 AM

For not knowing a thing about football my girlfriend is doing OK in the pick 'em. She doesn't go by spread, record, home field, injuries, etc. but team colors or what city a team is from or if a ram can beat a falcon. Too funny. She likes picking the teams for the five minutes we spend on it (when we remember) and is completely ambivalent with the results, bless her heart.

That was a garbage game, by both sides. Sloppy, and a little dirty, street football. Tough to watch. Hopefully they learn from it.

Yesterday, however, was a nice showing by the Packers offense on the road, and their defense eventually held. Credit to the Cowboys for not completely unraveling and making a game out of it. Hopefully we will get a whole game out of both the Packers's offense and D. Dallas came into the game 3-1, but those wins were against NYG, WASH, and MIA, so you'd think the result wouldn't have surprised and devastated Troy and Joe Buck so (wish Buck would stick to Cardinals games).

Speaking of Washington, Jay Gruden has been fired. Hasn't been easy considering the QB carousel they've gone through since he arrived - RGIII, Cousins, then finally looking good last season until Alex Smith pulled a Theisman.

Speaking of Cousins, I said this when Minnesota went after him, but how long until the Vikings tire of him look for the next sexy QB? It's happening.

Meanwhile, all of those Colts fans who wanted to return their season tickets might be surprised that to learn that they still have a decent team and handed KC their first loss.

They usually have audible crowd support in most every road game, but that might have been the most vocal such pro-Pats crowd ever ystrdy in Wash DC (Gruden is gone) -

Eli will be riding the pine as Peyton watches 12 get closer to his career TD pass record Thurs - let’s go Browns, time to hand SF 1st defeat

Cleveland is alternating losses and wins, would mean...they beat Seattle next week?

Good thing New England has beat Buffalo (by 6) because...otherwise they have beat 3-of-the-4 worst teams there is, NYJ, MIA, WAS 0-13 combined, oh, and they beat the 1-4 Steelers. Good job Pats.

Would be cool to see Giants give them a game Thursday.

Miami & Washington play each other Sunday. Two winless teams. I hope the game end in a 0-0 tie. So then they would both be without a win.

Been thinking on it since I brought it up here. I live in south Florida, not far from the Hard Rock Landsharkerwhatever stadium. I'm going to wait until Friday/Saturday, see how cheap tickets get. How low can they go - $40? $20? $10?! Some fan base is going to feel devastated, the other will be totally embarrassed. I might as well get some cheap tailgating in, right?

If there are two things in NFL that are always true:
1) Patriots are good
2) The Chargers will suck

porkchopbob - 10/14/2019 at 01:55 PM

Dallas continues to prove the 'boys probably aren't any good this season. But the NFC East is still up for grabs, so who knows? Nice win for the Jets, though.

I didn't make it to the Wash-Miami game (tickets were low, but didn't bottom out like I thought they would), but had a lot of friends who did and it was an empty affair. Puts to rest any debate on whether they are tanking or not.

49ers are quietly rolling after a cream puff opening schedule. Should be interesting when they play the Seahawks, Packers, and Saints in a few weeks.

To be fair to the Chargers, they finally had a decent season in 2018 going 12-4. That's a minor miracle considering no one in San Diego cared about them while they were breaking up with that city, and no one in LA cares about them yet. Tough to attract talent when you can't fill a 27,000 seat stadium in the sun with your own fans.

Do you think Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer? If I had a vote I would say yes. Do I think he will get in? Nope.

Lee - 10/15/2019 at 08:08 PM

The Lions got totally screwed last night. I don't want to say the NFL wanted Green Bay to win or anything but some of those calls were unbelievable. Hands to the face? Twice? Called by the same official? The guy didn't touch the other player's face mask or anything. His hands were on the jersey. Lions should have won that game.

Good question. Hard to compare eras, but two comparisons are Dan Fouts and the player Rivers was traded for, Eli Manning.

Dan Fouts had a similar career in SD - huge numbers, no Super Bowl appearance - and he made into the Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile Eli Manning won 2 Super Bowls but has never been about the stats, having some mediocre seasons in between Super Bowls, even within those SB seasons. Meanwhile, Rivers had a couple of really good Chargers squads that couldn't make it past Peyton or Brady.

Eli has a leg up with his Super Bowl wins in a big market, and being a Manning, but it's hard to put one in and not the other. I'd be inclined to put Rivers in over Eli.

Maybe Rivers's most amazing stat: he hasn't missed a game since taking over from Drew Brees, even toughing out an AFC Championship Game with a torn ACL.

As a Packers fan, I agree those 2 calls were nonsense. When it's 3rd down, it changes everything. Packers were on the other end of a bunch of those calls in the past few years, Clay Matthews couldn't even look at a QB without getting a flag. The officiating has gotten a little out of control the past few years, zebras are either too cautious or don't call anything at all to wait for a challenge to sort it out.

I still think GB would have won though

From where I sit, River's makes just as many throws that costs his teams games that win them. There has been plenty of good, it isn't all suck, but plenty of bad too. And if there was ever a team to choke vs an inferior or down team, it is the Chargers (well, and Dallas).

Losing to struggling Denver and Pittsburgh with a rookie FCS QB in back-to-back weeks at home is pathetic for a team that is supposed to be playoff caliber.

Stephen - 10/22/2019 at 02:59 AM

Another cakewalk for Pats - their D has given up 3 TDS this season — not-too-shabby
The Dec 22 rematch w/Buff will be mondo on many fronts - yep on both the gridiron & sheet, Buffalo Has Returned - Pats D this year has been crazy
Blowing in from Lake Erie next week - a visit from the rested/rejuvenated (? ) Browns - I love em like Chief Wahoo

[Edited on 10/22/2019 by Stephen]

Bears. What a joke. Glad I am not a fan but they are costing me money. They made a HUGE mistake with Trubiskey. It looked as though he had cash on SD.

Stephen - 10/28/2019 at 12:37 PM

Browns have a lock on new & unusual ways to screw up - the ball got kicked outta Chubb’s hands by a teammate - he coughed it up himself after a long gainer - the CB dropped an interception in the end zone that was thrown right to him - the usual exquisitely timed penalties, etc etc - Nick Chubb was a standout tho - predicting they’ll beat Denver next week

Wanted Pats to win w/Browns making a game of it - if Pats can beat a good Balt team next week they’ll go into their bye week undefeated - 300 wins for Bill Belichick, joining George Halas (347) and Don Shula (324)

Buff has easy schedule upcoming, Wash (1-7), Browns (2-5), Miami (0-8) & Denver (2-6) - still think that Dec 22 game will loom large for both teams

Gut check game for the Packers last night. I was actually worried they'd look past a Mohomes-less Chiefs, and they almost did after they went up 14-0. But they settled down nicely and dug in for the win.

quote:
Bears. What a joke.

With all of the Super Bowl talk by Bears fans in the offseason, I can only laugh. With that D, they should be better, but it looks like the wheels are coming off another Bears QB.

Bummer for JJ Watt, you hate to see a guy like him go down for the season. Especially considering this looked like a rare solid season for the Texans.

Patriots look unstoppable, but they've only played one team with a winning record (Bills). Ravens, and later the Chiefs, should be nice tests for them to see how good they really are.

Stephen - 11/3/2019 at 02:45 PM

Bronco Flacco no-go, instead a rookie making his 1st start - good chance, on paper, for a Browns win in Dnvr, plus their level of play can only get better

Their DC fans showed up in force 4 weeks ago, Pats likely to see more road love tonite in nearby Baltimore - a big one to get going into their bye week

You are right about the Bears. I am not a fan by any means but when you live here and read the Chicago Tribune every day you get a pulse on how people feel. Nagy is starting to get A LOT of heat. I have to agree. Taking a knee last week at the end of the game, clock mismanagement at the end of the first half?

A good buddy of mine said the Bears wouldn't win seven games this year. Seven? Sure they will. Bet him $50 and now I am wondering.

Regarding JJ Watt, yeah that is a shame. Seems like he is always hurt. On the NFL Network earlier one of the analysts said it should't affect the Texans much because they are accustomed to not playing with him. That is sad.

The Patriots? I can't stand them and their coach but they keep on winning. You are right about their schedule. Will they go 16-0? They did it once in the regular season and didn't finish.

Ravens win. Looks like the Patriots are human after all.

That leaves SF as the only undefeated team in the league. They haven't really played any solid teams yet either, so next week's battle with Seattle should be telling (with the Packers and Saints on the horizon)

Texans look pretty solid with Deshaun "drafted after Mitch Trubisky" Watson manning the ship, with the Colts on their heels.

Cam Newton is shut down for the season, which means the Packers face another backup QB this weekend. They were lucky they laid an egg the same weekend everyone else in the NFC North lost.

It’s Cleveland this wknd & Pats would benefit by Browns beating Buffalo Bills

We coughed up another last nite, so did Flyiz & it’ll be a salty atmosphere at Pats- Eagles game in Philly - big for Pats w/Buff playing 2-7 Miami

That’s who Browns play next week - Browns have won 2 in a row & schedule is favorable w/Dolphins & two w/Bungles - just depends on how they adjust w/no Myles Garrett - guessing Kareem Hunt will have big game next week

Same thing as last week, Buff has a winnable game & Pats must beat another traditional NFL team to keep 2 game lead
This time it’s Dallas “America’s Team” Cowboys (6-4)
Yes it’s their traditional nickname, however, they’re not the only team in Dallas, much-less America

That’s right - after 14 years in Anaheim & 13 in San Jose, Corey Perry & Joe Pavelski have joined forces w/Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn & never-heard-of-him coach Jim Montgomery......& suddenly, their hockey team (13 of 15) is the hottest in the league & all-the- **** among Dallas fans while supplanting Cowboys as Lone Star(s)

TV ratings this afternoon would verify that - w/talk-of-the-league rookie Luka, Kristaps & Mavs (W4) playing TX rival Harden & Houston, most Dallas fans will likely be watching the second half of the basketball game, instead of the first half of the football game (they overlap) - even w/Pats

Pats likely to gain 10th win but even in Fxbrgh, it’s won’t be easy - wasn’t last week in Phila either - Browns can stay in it w/expected home win over Miami

SF is ‘uber-talented’ as we’re seeing, & now would that be all the sh!t or What - former Brady understudy Jimmy Garropolo & Niniz, 19-1, vs his mentor TB12 & defending-champion Patriots, also 19-1.....
.....in next year’s Super Bowl
It’d be a ratings wrecker, an advertising bonanza

piacere - 11/25/2019 at 02:47 PM

You mean 17-1.

Yeah, that'd be an awesome game.

I'd like to see the Pats go 18-1.

porkchopbob - 11/25/2019 at 03:39 PM

Packers got spanked, I'm not surprised. They've been coasting for a few weeks, lucky to get the Chiefs and Panthers without their starting QBs. There's a great team in there somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be all together yet. Can't throw down field when your offensive line is crumbling. And their secondary has been giving up too many big plays.

Stephen - 11/26/2019 at 06:51 PM

SF is very good tho, & How Good, we’ll see Sunday in Balt - that is a SB-caliber matchup - the Monday night MN-Seattle is tops also - Seattle & Buffalo are breathing down 49ers & Pats necks - Bills visit Cowboys Thursday

Baltimore looks like the real deal, 49ers don't look bad either. Could be a Super Bowl preview, would be an interesting rematch.

This might be the weakest Pats team in a few years. Still good but the Chiefs and Bills games will be telling. Can't sleep on the Chiefs since they've got Mahomes back.

Nice to see the Dolphins win one, hard to root against Fitzy.

Packers were finally able to put some distance between them and the Giants in the 4th quarter, 3 picks doesn't hurt. They need to get their running game back on track if they want a home playoff game, which would likely be against Minnesota or Seattle (who square off tonight!).

Also, can we talk about how terrible Atlanta Falcons fans are? Fancy new stadium was completely empty on Thanksgiving night even though they still had a chance late in the game against their biggest rival.

Going into yesterday all those teams were 0-12.

Weird.

Living in Chicago, I obviously have to read / watch / hear delusional Bears fans talk about their team. I must chuckle when I read / watch / hear folks talk about the Bears going to the playoffs.

They are 6-6. Their remaining schedule:

Cowboys
@ Packers
Chiefs
@ Vikings

They have two teams they have to pass. I think they could be three games back after tonight if I am looking at it correctly.

If the Bears's defense woke up, they could maybe take 3 of those games - Dallas is certainly mortal and division games are often a toss up. But that still keeps them behind the other 2 Wild Cards, most likely. I'm not surprised they took a step back this year, Chicago is itching for the Bears to be good again.

Speaking of Wild Cards, the 49ers and Seahawks are neck and neck in the West, and Seattle has the slightly easier schedule and already a head-to-head win. Slightly more exciting division race than the NFC East...

I agree with you about the Bears defense not being as good as say, last year, but should you really have to rely THAT much on your D to score? Their offense has been rather anemic to say the least. They can't run and Trubiskey just isn't that good.

I don't know what to make of your Packers. I haven't seen the consistency out of them. That SF game was brutal.

The NFC West is the best division in the league. Kind of a shame either SF or Seattle has to play that first weekend.

NFC East: Unreal. At the moment I think Dallas would get a home game against a team with four more wins than them just because they won their division. I think a couple of times a team has gotten into the playoffs with a losing record. I don't know if Dallas can pull that off but they are pretty darn close.

Maybe Trubby isn't that good, or maybe he just needs a little more time. Teams seem quick to quit on decent QBs as if they are going to find a Rodgers or a Brady sitting on their bench (which is, to be fair, where they were both found...)

Packers are still young and rebuilding. The team had a complete overhaul and I don't think anyone expected them to have such a solid record so quickly. But their O-line and secondary needs an update. SF is just a year ahead on their rebuild. A lot of teams that are in their first year of rebuilding benefit from a soft schedule.

Seattle was the first 7-9 team to win their division, in 2010 I think? And they won a playoff game. I think there was a 7-9 Panthers NFC South champ one year too maybe? I still think a division winner should make the playoffs, but only host if they have a winning record.

Interesting. So if a division winner is 9-7 say and a wildcard team is 12-4 would you give the 9-7 team home field? I actually think this can happen this year. Does one potential wildcard team try to beat out the other so they get home field? Tie breakers? I'm sure the NFL would figure that out.

It's a good conversation. Kind of like baseball trying to incentivize teams to win their division so they don't have to play that one game do or die thing.

porkchopbob - 12/6/2019 at 02:29 PM

Leave it to the Cowboys to make Trubby look like Sid Luckman. Even if the Cowboys still win the East, I'd be very surprised if Garrett survives in Dallas.

It absolutely will now, more likely an 8-8 team at best. The Eagles could very easily take back the division. But 9-7 is still a winning record. Home field is definitely an advantage, but if you're 12-4 Wild Card team you should be able to beat a 9-7 team even on the road.

"Very Easily"....Didn't they just lose to the Dolphins?

That's exactly the point [slow clap], the Cowboys are spiraling that quickly after a tough stretch of games. But the Eagles only have division games remaining and are only a game behind the Cowboys.

W/lowly NYG in town Monday it’d seem Phila would pull into the tie w/Dallas
However Eli Manning is back in the saddle, never know if or how the return of an old veteran like that might spur on a team

How the Pats played in the late stages in Houston will carry over to KC game - they’ll know Balt-Buff outcome & urgency will be there

Crazy game in the dome yesterday, came down to which ever team had it last. SF has put themselves ahead of Seattle in the Division and New Orleans in the conference.

Meanwhile, the other great game, New England got hosed by the refs. 2 touchdowns taken off the board by the zebras. It has not been a great year for NFL officiating.

And don't look now but somehow the Steelers are in the playoff race.

piacere - 12/9/2019 at 06:39 PM

Hosed or not the Pats stink. Can't beat a division winner in the AFC and you ain't got a chance. Worst 10-3 team I've ever seen. Jeez, they look like the Bears.

Stephen - 12/9/2019 at 07:01 PM

D is still top-rated in the league tho - easy one next week w/Cincy, also Buff-Pitts
A one-game lead going into the Buff game would be pivotal - some rough stretches in the last 2 games yes, but still think Pats will win div & go deep in playoffs

jszfunk - 12/11/2019 at 07:20 AM

If you have to cheat to beat the Bengals, you should be suspended for about 5 years.

Patriots' Bill Belichick denies involvement with videographer caught taping Bengals' sideline

Dang, that's pretty sour, I think the Patriot's recent success has spoiled you a bit. Lions fans would give you their Ford truck for a 10-3 record. Enjoy watching Brady while he's on the field. It's all about when you peak. Playoff rematches are always a different game.

piacere - 12/11/2019 at 05:40 PM

Yeah, kinda spoiled. Though I go back to the late 60's with this team. I agree rematches are a different animal and Bill tunes them up to peak in January.Maybe I am a bit sour on them. I just can't see them beating KC or Baltimore. If Edelman gets hurt it's over.

& that’s w/no DC too, Belichick has called the defensive alignments this season & look at the results
Cincy won their 1st 2 weeks ago, & outplayed Browns in every statistical category except final score Sunday.....
May not be as easy as 1st thought - Pats will have to be sharp - still, improving Bungles team & all, guessing Pats will have a lotta fans there & will return at 11-3
