On "moral grounds"....

BrerRabbit - 6/24/2018 at 02:19 AM

Sanders, any relation to the Colonel? Hope it wasn't KFC.

Exactly. Just like not baking a wedding cake for a gay couple. The owners of the restaurant were opposed to Sanders on moral grounds. Snowflake, do you have a problem with that?

Not at all, just like the Baker, customers can decide the business' future.

BrerRabbit - 6/24/2018 at 02:34 AM

Where does it say in any religion "Thou shalt not serve slackjawed lackeys of tinpot hack wannabe dictators" ?

I don't think The Red Hen has a foot to stand on if this goes to court.

That was your take on this. That was the one thing you focused on. So it seems you did have a problem with it.

Interpret how you wish, my post is pretty clear, The owners should be able to refuse service to anyone, the same stance I have with the Bakery.

BoytonBrother - 6/24/2018 at 03:21 AM

My take is that it didn’t happen. Lying Sarah is lying again. And even if it did happen, which it didn’t, I don’t really care, do you? Sad! #maga.

Why couldn’t they be civil and let her enjoy her meal. Like the cake nuts, if I make my living selling cakes, selling cakes is my focus. Not giving theology or civics lessons.

As much as I can't stand her for going out daily and propagating lies to support Despicable Donny, she should have been able to dine there.

Liberals & free thinking individuals should not sink as low as a baker who shows prejudice and hides behind the bible and pseudo morals.

Exactly. The Baker was wrong, but the restaurant was right? Although I believe in the individual freedom of business owners to serve whom they please, the hypocrisy was blinding in this case.

Practice what you preach.

BrerRabbit - 6/24/2018 at 08:00 PM

Where's the hypocrisy? They kicked someone out they didn't like. So what. I've been kicked out of plenty places, run off at shotgun point, never bellyached about it.

You missed the point. Shocking! The courts backed the baker saying he did not have to give service if it violated his moral principles. Liberals basic response was “we don’t agree, but if that is the law so be it”. Now, when the tables are turned, conservatives are the offended ones.

You, on the other hand, appear to be taking no real position, just another excuse to attack liberals. Also shocking!

Was not the Baker's decision based on "Moral grounds"?...This is what the restaurant owner claimed.

You can't have it both ways

There is no weight involved when dealing with hypocritical bigots. The low IQ voters and the third party voters got what they wanted. Live with it.

When you're the propaganda queen for the fascists then you can expect some back last. Don't know if any one saw the statement from the King of the Netherlands. He's given his warning to DT that there will be a time he will be held accountable at the Hague...He and his administration are committing child abuse and human rights crimes on a daily basis and the world is taking notice not just the "Fake news"

See the forgotten voters/people got that way for a reason and their showing why we forgot them and will again when this episode is over...

The law is on the Presidents side here. Lets get a deal on fixing immigration and securing the border. If democrats do not want to secure the border than just come out and say it.

Like it or not, he campaigned (and won) on his views about immigration.

Try sneaking into Mexico and report back here to let me know how well they treat you and your family.

He campaigned on Mexico paying for the wall. When is that going to happen, goob? Why should American taxpayers pay for this when Trump promised Mexico would pay? Please answer this.

He lured gullible MAGA voters in for this - the same voters that will be screwed by his trade wars.

They don't want a secure border, I'm guessing, most want an open border; "it's cruel, because after all, Illegal immigrants just want a better life"! ...and the Democrats feel everyone should pay for it. Disagree with the rule of law and well, "You don't like brown people"......

When our ancestors came to America c early 1900's they needed people to "vouch" for them and agree to help them financially. There was no free health care for them. I would have a way different view of immigration if that was still the case,

BrerRabbit - 6/26/2018 at 03:24 AM

Does this sound familiar? . . .

“THE CHILDREN OF BIGGOTTED, CATHOLIC IRELAND, like the FROGS which were sent out as a plague against the Pharaoh have come into our houses, bed-chambers, and ovens and kneading-troughs,” the Ohio Statesmen lamented in 1843, echoing the complaints of party-members ten years later. The “IRISH, when they arrive among us, TOO IDLE AND VICIOUS to clear and cultivate the land and earn a comfortable home, DUMP THEMSELVES DOWN in our large villages and town, crowding the meaner sort of tenements and filling them with WRETCHEDNESS, FILTH and DISEASE. In a political point of view, WHAT ARE THEY BUT MERE MARKEATABLE CATTLE?"

BrerRabbit - 6/26/2018 at 03:44 AM

"Few of their children in the country learn English ... The signs in our streets have inscriptions in both languages ... Unless the stream of their importation could be turned they will soon so outnumber us that all the advantages we have will not be able to preserve our language, and even our government will become precarious."

-Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father, on German immigration to Pennsylvania, 1750s

"We should build a wall of brass around the country."

- John Jay, first chief justice of Supreme Court, regarding “Catholic alien invaders,” 1750s

"What means the paying of the passage and emptying out upon our shores such floods of pauper emigrants — the contents of the poor house and the sweepings of the streets? — multiplying tumults and violence, filling our prisons, and crowding our poor-houses, and quadrupling our taxation, and sending annually accumulating thousands to the poll to lay their inexperienced hand upon the helm of our power?"

- Lyman Beecher, Leader of the Second Great Awakening, on English immigrants, 1834

"The enormous influx of alien foreigners will in the end prove ruinous to American workingmen, by REDUCING THE WAGES OF LABOR to a standard that will drive them from the farms and workshops altogether."

- Opinion article in the Philadelphia Sun, 1854

"Standing behind them are Christian employers of this land, who would rather import heathen willing to work for barely enough to sustain life than retain a brother Christian at a wage sufficient to live as becomes a Christian. We do not want Opium or the Chinese who grow it."

- Terence Powderly, Irish-American labor leader, 1892

"We demand the change of the national naturalization laws by the repeal of the act authorizing the naturalization of minors…We demand for the protection of our citizen laborers, the prohibition of the importation of pauper labor, and the restriction of immigration…We protest against the gross negligence and laxity with which the Judiciary of our land administer the present naturalization laws, and against the practice of naturalizing aliens."

- statement of principles of the American Protective Association, 1894

"Not a day passes but families are ruthlessly turned out to make room for foreign invaders. The rates are burdened with the education of thousands of foreign children."

- William Evans Gordon, British nativist, 1905

"The people of this country are too tolerant. There’s no other country in the world where they’d allow it... After all we built up this country and then we allow a lot of foreigners, the scum of Europe, the offscourings of Polish ghettos to come and run it for us."

– John Dos Passos, early 20th century novelist, on U.S. immigration policy

"They are coming in such numbers and we are unable adequately to take care of them…It simply amounts to unrestricted and indiscriminate dumping into this country of people of every character and description…If there were in existence a ship that could hold three million human beings, then three million Jews of Poland would board to escape to America."

-Congressional hearing, 1920

"Now, what do we find in all our large cities? Entire sections containing a population incapable of understanding our institutions, with no comprehension of our national ideals, and for the most part incapable of speaking the English language. Foreign language information service gives evidence that many southern Europeans resent as an unjust discrimination the quota laws and represent America as showing race hatred and unmindful of its mission to the world. The reverse is true. America’s first duty is to those already within her own shores."

- Representative Grant Hudson, 1924

Look if Col. Sanders says to get out - doesn't matter if you are related - you gotta go.

All that cut/paste of useless articles that are always written with complete bias for one side or the other.

Some good advice. People want to be involved, whether it is reading a paper and talking about issues at the local coffee shop or doing it on the internet.

We are definitely at the point of no return in terms of our society getting along with those who disagree.

You may be right but I hope not. It isn't just politics either and the USA is far from being the only people guilty. It is world wide.

But as far as politics, I can understand choosing a side of an issue. But in life, we are not fully left or right on anything. It is impossible to fully agree with one party or the other. On some issues you will disagree and others maybe fall somewhere in the middle.

But this I AM RIGHT/I AM LEFT has hurt your country and will continue to blindly do so if people draw a line in the sand on EVERY issue. " You are Right so you are an idiot" - "The Left are wimps who give everything away". As if any of you live so extreme left/right in real life. Middle ground, compromise and working together is what made America great then and now.

Long before Trump/Obama, you guys were great because it wasn't the politicians that made it great, it is you.

Travelled all around and met thousands of Americans - Amazing people North/South/East/West.

Before CNN/FOX, social media etc, you would vote. Win or lose - accepted the President and got on with life. Sure maybe you disagreed with some policies/issues but it did not consume your lives or society. You were Americans - Standing Proud side by side. The vast majority are exactly the same. But we see/hear/read the extremists who are just seeking attention and money at any costs. And then people sit and debate this extreme nonsense.

I think your Country and People are awesome. When I meet you, I don't give a crap who you voted for. Would prefer not to know and discuss another topic to be honest. All I know is that you are a friendly (for the most part), kind and generous people.

20-30 years ago, no one gave a crap if some politician didn't get served their KFC. You would never have heard about and it would have 0% effect on your life.

Ok - this is where some will bash because I said I like you F'N guys.

None of you are ALL the way Right/Left - In reality, you are all in the middle somewhere so call it Team Middle. Only people with mental/psych issues are all the way in either direction. People unable to listen to reason or evaluate issues or situations. People who are unable to process information so their mind just accepts someone else's version. The percentage or people in that category is a tiny portion of the population.

Stop letting them speak for you.

Make America Great Again and send me CDs.

Great post Canadian Mule!!

This President is different, I totally get that from his opponents. Still, where we are today, it's been building, it is not new, it has just been escalated. The hate for Bush, the hate for Obama...why hate either? With each Presidential term, politics and debate and reason in this country has been eroding. With the growth of blogs and social media with one person's opinion trying to outdo another person's opinion to garner attention, rising to insults and profanity, it all just has exploded. I'm certainly not innocent, I try to keep my feet on the ground, I suppose we all can fall victim to our surroundings.

I am sure there are people who thought President Reagan did irreversible damage to this country, just as they might think Bush did or Trump is doing. The difference is that there was no outlet for the kind of commentary we have today, the people talking at extremes on issues did not have the stage they have. Rush Limbaugh was a turning point, but if it wasn't him, it would've been somebody else.

I guess we are our own worst enemy. The Republic is falling from within.

Would certainly like to think on the words of Canadian Mule's post. We are great together. We can do magnificent things together. Anytime I meet people or talk among friends of friends and the topic is current events we generally end up in the middle with some core agreements and some not very significant disagreements. I do not know how we can recapture some civility together. Definitely Trump doesn't help. But I learned as a young child that acting out and blaming others doesn't work...so-and-so made me do it or so-and-so made me say it. BS, everyone is responsible for their own words and actions.

Perhaps the best thing to do is just to tune it out and enjoy the things in life that make living fun and great and exciting. Because whatever activity I am doing with whomever I am doing it with, what their politics are do not matter in the least even if we both know we do not agree on whatever.

We need to get back to relationships and shared experiences...I just don't know if it can happen.

Agreed 100%. The #1 superpower in the world is always going to have complex passionate issues. It goes with the territory. Our ship may be taking some friendly fire, but it surely won’t drift off course, and still the strongest.

I would counter that what America is experiencing now is the continuation of a history of conflict, change, and social progress that has always consumed our lives and society:

The American Revolution

The Civil War

Labor reform struggle

Prohibition

The New Deal

Civil Rights movement

Women's Liberation

Rock and Roll

Vietnam

Marijuana law reform - This repression cut to the marrow of our lives and society for nearly a century.

and so on , as Kurt Vonnegut would say.

Exactly the same? God forbid. Not so. Never was so, and never will be - when this becomes true then you can rightfully say we are no longer Americans.

No - just the ones with a need to take that information and try and force it on others. Then unable to accept any other reality.

quote:
Some people find it interesting to debate politics and current events to simply learn.

Debate? Learn? On here - you have not paid attention to a single point anyone has ever made against your opinions and you have learned nothing. It is why you come up with the same old clichés and why I skip over your posts generally speaking. Not a thing to gain except opinions spewed by someone looking for ratings. You are not bright enough to get that.

I don't even need to read and you will reply some "Disney": crap because you always do as you have Nothing Else. Pisses you off that I know more than you about your own country.

Continue your trolling and ignorance. Oh sorry I mean debates.

Debating and learning being done here in the WP? That gets comedy post of the year.

Now write some crap about Disney and show your continued ignorance and in ability at actual debate.

Did you learn this from your trip to Disney World? You are just another one that has a need to poke the tiger and fight, just like the Americans you describe. Always battling someone....

LMAO! I could not have scripted that better. Pathetic and lame.

Oh sure - I tell you guys that you are awesome and should skip sensational media/trolls. Say that I love the country and its' people. What a monster I am and clearly looking for a fight.

Now go copy/paste something that FOX said because if it is on TV/Computer it has to be true.

The rest of you guys - turn off the TV/Whipping Post and have great day.

Totally agree on TV, don't watch it myself. Don't surf web much either, it is mostly stale info overload.

But the Whipping Post rules! All five of us!

It’s “inability“, one word. I’ll debate you on any issue any time, but let me guess, you won’t waste your time with a (insert insult here), probably because you can’t keep your composure apparently. And how about you explain your Disney comment here and see what the reaction is, if you stand by it so much.

BrerRabbit - 6/26/2018 at 08:06 PM

Donald slipped America a Mickey and we all turned Goofy and ended up on Pluto.

CanadianMule - 6/26/2018 at 08:52 PM

see your first mistake is believing that anyone here actually reads any or all of what you write.

for me it got boring as you have nothing to add. You have no intention of intelligent debate. Quite frankly, you come across as just some bitter, angry guy. I hope I am wrong and this is all just some internet personality.

I know about the Disney comment because you always make it. The fact that you are still that bitter for being schooled is comical. Get over it, buddy. Also that you can't grasp a cross demographic of people from various parts of the country, political views, religious beliefs. Then believe what you will.

You keep trying to present examples as if all people in the US are sheep. I am talking about people like you who do not represent the average American. Thank God for that. Pick and pull all you like. My message was clear - the average American isn't extremist Right or Left. But your popular opinions are proclaimed for you by advertising dollars and do not represent actual views. People like you bought in long ago. Middle ground and compromise are reality. Some just want to fight some empty battle daily and pretend that they are "in the know" far more than anyone else.

It is why you comically try and provoke me with the same things over and over. No imagination of your own. The best part that every time you try and bother me with things like Disney. It makes me laugh.

Keep trying. Maybe one day you will score a point - against anyone on here. Nice to see that you at least keep the dream alive.

Feel free to write something else that I may or may not read. But sunny outside and a world full of sensible, intelligent people to devote my time to instead. But you keep fighting on a band's nearly empty forum and fix the world. LOL

WP is always good for a bi-monthly laugh. See you in August. Everyone enjoy the sun and shows.

LOL - Now there is some Disney Imagination. Could be a job in Walt's World for you. Going to have to get you one of those big VIP Disney buttons.

Hey BB - take notes. That was fun, witty and with a touch of personality. Lighten up and smell the flowers. They don't belong to any political party. Take the time to enjoy. You and your loved ones are hopefully healthy and happy. Hopefully the same tomorrow and every day following. Life goes on whether you tell everyone else they are wrong. Has no effect at all. Wasted time and effort. But we all have hobbies. Even you and/or your loved ones must enjoy Disney on occasion.

Bitter? I found the comment to be utterly hilarious. Just like if I said I got an accurate picture of Canadians because I went to Niagara Falls.

What advertising? I’m against Trump’s rhetoric, not his policies. I never post anything from TV - show me if I have.

That’s what I tried with the Disney joke, but then you had a meltdown.....and i never knew Canadians were this short tempered. They are always portrayed differently in the media. Maybe I ought to visit Niagara Falls again to educate myself on the REAL Canada, lol.

jkeller - 6/26/2018 at 11:11 PM

Let me see if I have this right. A person came on here and said all we do is argue and nobody sees the other sides point of view. He basically said it was stupid. When somebody else objected to his unasked for view, the first guy proceeded to do what he criticized us for. He started an argument and refused to see the other persons point of view.

I just learned that Canadians were responsible for burning down the Whitehouse in the War of 1812 and that they are a major threat to our national security. I guess all that portrayal of Canadians as polite and decent people is fake news by the liberal media. They even have socialized medicine. You can't trust those commies.

Gold status. LOL - would have loved to just walk away but that was too funny to not give credit. We also control entertainment in Hollywood - who do you think writes all those cliché Canadian jokes on shows. Great post. Kicked your ass in 1812. LOL

Wait until you find out who runs CNN/FOX and all the other propaganda channels/print media. Those F"N Canadians!!! They are F"N everywhere.

The polite and decent thing is a ploy to keep you distracted while our buddy steals your beer and girlfriend.

Add to the fact that growing pot is a cottage industry up here and there are free bails on every corner.

You guys are building The Wall on the wrong side.

Maybe a marijuana hedge along the border?

Now if possible, could you ask all the people flooding over the border daily to escape the US to please turn around. Nothing but commies, pot and igloos up here.

PeachNutt - 6/27/2018 at 01:41 AM

It is the duty of all good compassionate enlightened human beings to stand up against the fascist nazi's occupying the White House, and their cohorts, at all times at every and all venues. Silence is complicity.

What the hell is Luke talking about? What does any of this have to do with any topic at hand?

BrerRabbit - 7/17/2018 at 09:38 PM

The "queer 3 $" was originally an attack on someone for their comment. That person's comment had nothing to do with sexual preference. It would appear that the attack was directed at the use of big words, especially pantywaist candyass queer concepts like "compassionate" and "enlightened" which are not only gay but pretty big words too. Anti-intellectual illiterates consider education a sign of homosexuality.

BrerRabbit - 7/17/2018 at 10:12 PM

And in regards to the anti-intellectual drawling toughguy Southern act:

It is a truly unfortunate stereotype that casts the Southerner as devoid of a great love of letters and enthusiasm for the advancement of the literary arts. Modern American fiction was practically born there. Many (most?) of our finest wordsmiths were and are from the South. A few off the top of my head: William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Richard Wright, Cormac McCarthy (my favorite), Harper Lee, Truman Capote, Margaret Mitchell, Wendell Berry, Zora Neale Hurston, Robert Penn Warren, Alice Walker . . . there are hundreds.

Somewhat related, as far as people thinking it is "cool" and "roughneck" to talk Southern, the Southern accent and word styling, now the symbolic lingua franca of the anti-intellectual rebelyell crowd, and amplified into a comical parody of itself by Nashville, assiduously affected by redneck posers nationwide and mocked by Yankee pseudo-intellectuals is in actuality an undiluted form of the Elizabethan English brought here in the 17th century, trapped in amber in the South as English morphed into other accents in other regions due to the modern influx of immigrants from all over Europe. So that redneck wannabe in Anyville USA who adopts the accent he hears on KCOW is actually schooling himself in an accent that William Shakespeare may well have had!

rmack - 7/18/2018 at 12:35 AM

Jeez, Brer…I guess this post makes you a 4 dollar bill...

BrerRabbit - 7/18/2018 at 01:45 AM

That's one dollar's worth more of queer, but another dollar more queer than that you turn normal as a five dollar bill.
