Week 1 lines came out!

Bhawk - 5/22/2018 at 09:40 PM

I'll take OU to cover FAU.

I don't know. Coach Kiffin knows about point spreads, he has mentioned them in his post game press conferences and even tweeted them!

On a related note, naturally I am very happy that last week's Supreme Court decision opening the door for states to legalize sports gambling. We'll see if Congress does something either way, they want to have their hands in everything so we'll see.

Season win totals and games of year lines are not out yet, they should be out this week.

I really don't get serious about gearing up until mid summer, but it is coming. 94 days.

Glad you mentioned the South Point Casino Nebish. I stayed there my last Vegas trip and for the money and location, it was a good time. It's a ways from the strip but saving that extra time Sunday morning was worth it. The pool is nice and the bartender made a decent Mai Tai.

As for 2018 college football, it's the usual suspects: Bama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson. The Caines will be tough but they'll lose a game they should win; that's CMR's track record. The team I think that will make some noise is Northwestern; coming off a 10-3 season with lots of returning players and the most under-rated coach in Pat Fitzgerald.

Out west, UW will be the team to beat. CCP is the best coach in the Pac12. As for my Bruins, their record will improve over last year but they'll get spanked in some games. I see 8-4 at best.

Here's to college football tailgates, the best parties ever!

nebish - 6/12/2018 at 12:01 PM

Nothing gets me more excited than looking at win totals although I am a month out from digging in.

PAC12 South is super intriguing this year.

NW and Iowa always seem to do better when expectations are low. Love Fitz. Hope Thorston is healthy. Wisconsin still rules the west but do travel to Evanston this year.

I placed a lot of bets at South Point and was impressed with it. They are the only Vegas sports book to post win totals for every team. I've walked, Ubered and took the train everywhere on the strip and South Point is the only one that has them all.

Lee - 6/12/2018 at 12:01 PM

I like Northwestern getting three against Purdue. Just to piss off my in laws who live right across the street from Purdue's stadium.

Lee - 6/12/2018 at 12:05 PM

Being from Michigan I follow The Big Ten of course. I can't see Michigan or State winning 10 games so probably take the under on both.

I think the thing about college football anticipation I don't like is the fact that it isn't even summer yet and we are already looking forward to fall.

nebish - 7/20/2018 at 12:08 AM

Conference media days are upon us!

Fall camps are about to begin!

36 days until first kickoffs Saturday 8/25!
41 days until Thursday 8/30 games!
43 days until the first full Saturday of action!!!

StratDal - 7/20/2018 at 02:16 AM

Unfortunately I can't get the Pac12 Network (for all sorts of BS reasons and most of them rest with the conference). That being said, I had fun watching the SEC Media Days and related all this week. I enjoy listening to all the commentators and what they have to say.

To good times this fall!

My PAC12 Network solution was to have a family member out of state upgrade their cable package on Comcast to include some sports channels with the PAC12 Network and then I have their log-in so I can watch PAC12 Network through the Comcast or the PAC12 App. PAC12 Network and Big Ten Network are must haves!

Do you have Sirius/XM Strat? I listen to channel 84 ESPNU alot and they advertise PAC12 and SEC specific channels but I haven't tried those yet.

I love the over/under on South Carolina win total ay 7.5 and projected 3rd place finish in the East. USuC fans have drinking the Muschump Kool-aid where he claims to be doing special things to bring in championships. I've heard this **** for 50 years and nothing changes.

Lee - 7/22/2018 at 01:04 PM

So do you want the over or the under?

nebish - 7/23/2018 at 03:51 PM

Dan always hates South Carolina. So does our friend hoffcl, he used to call them "the team from the state under North Carolina". One is a Clemson fan (going for 5 straight over SC this year) and the other is a Georgia fan (the last in the series 3 Georgia has won by 14 or more).

I think SC can be good, but they were 9-4 last year, just 5-3 in the SEC. How much better can they be? They were 6-1 in one score games last year and won 3 games in which they were outgained in yardage. So SC may have to be improved this year just to go 5-3 in the league again. Don't forget SC has lost 4 straight to UK!!!

Still alot of people are high on SC this year, either because they think Georgia may take a step back or because they like Bentley. Bentley year 3 has potential to have his best year yet. New OC promoted from the staff. SC has some weapons to work with, but Bentley didn't play up to expectations last year so he will need to rise his game.

Everyone knows that Muschamp teams can typically play some D, it's just the O on his watch never pulls their weight.

After Georgia the SEC East looks like it is anybody's division to challenge the Dawgs. I have heard media people saying they think SC can beat Georgia, which maybe they can. I've also heard people say SC can win the East, that I'm not so optimistic on. I think this time of year people just want to look for something up and coming and different. SC usually disappoints in that regard. Maybe 2018 can be different?

Agree. Same when Spurrier came here. They were just natl championing all over themselves. That Clemson game is just as important as the 5 in a row thing is all the talk already. I myself am a huge fan of whoever I got that week.

Nice to see Mike poke his head in! Oregon should be an interesting team this year. Hope Herbert can stay healthy. Glad Levitt said as DC. Everyone is just giving Washington that division, and they deserve to be the favorite, the only weakness they have is a proven threat at WR (like they have in 2016). Stanford's model of playing to their defense and keeping it simple on O may be changing...the D is weaker and the O may be their best in years. Oregon? Coaching change (again) and Herbert's health would be the questions. Ducks should be a team to watch. And Cal is up and coming. I am down on Washington State this year, they may struggle to make a bowl. Think they may drop the game at Wyoming in the opener.

I'll look into the yahoo pick'em for this year.

I'd like to think this whole Urban Meyer thing isn't true. Not for him, but for the ex coach's wife. This is a very sad story.

If so, I think the only thing OSU can do is part ways with Urban.

Florida hired an awesome coach. Look out for the Gators especially in 2020.

nebish - 8/3/2018 at 01:41 AM

Coach Urban Meyer and Ohio State have a mess on their hands. The cover up gets you eventually.

I don't know, they'll figure it out what is right for their program based on the facts surrounding all of it.

Ohio State's win total has been taken off the board at a few online places, not sure about Vegas.

Certainly a distraction for the team. And add in that Ryan Day has been named acting head coach, with no head coaching experience, while their are two former HCs on the staff in Kevin Wilson and Greg Schiano - that could create some resentment within the ranks. Ofcourse Kevin Wilson has his own baggage and we know about the Schiano controversy.

Hey Strat I am in your neck of the woods for a family vacation from November 9 to 19. If you are venturing to USC UCLA I'd love to tag along or even drop in to say hi at your tailgate. And of course rid you of any food going to waste.

Long way away, just planting the seed.

Going to go to one or both of Northwestern's first two home games, Duke and Akron.

Tickets for Akron can be had for $2 and Duke for a whopping $3.

Cool leaf! This year's showdown is at the Coliseum. Sorry but I don't go to games there anymore; too much of a hassle.

Good luck to the Ducks this season. I think the Bruins play at Eugene. I don't think they've won there since 2004. Should be a heck of a game especially with CCK returning.

$2 OR $3 too rich for your blood?

If you've never been to a Northwestern game, plan a trip to Chicago. Evanston is just a short train ride away. Campus is a short walk from the train station. The stadium is really cool. Much smaller than Michigan or Michigan State. I think even MAC schools like Western or Central Michigan.

Strange place, Ohio...

Big 12 thoughts...

OU - Who replaces Baker Mayfield? Whoever does has the luxury of having a fine offensive line. About that defense, tho...

Iowa State - Yeah, I said Iowa State. Sleeper. Maybe. Sorta. Probably not. But still...

West Virginia - Been trying to figure this team out for a few years now. Strong starts. Inexplicable fades.

K-State - See West Virginia. When does the Snyder Era end?

TCU - Pieces are in place. Now what?

Texas - Maybe this is the season they realize that they aren't entitled to anything just because they are Texas. Nah, won't happen.

nebish - 8/6/2018 at 12:51 PM

UCLA practices closed? Can't you just get a hotel room overlooking the field and see everything there?

Duke @ Northwestern should be good game! I think Hunter Johnson has to sit out a year on the transfer, but that is an amazing land for NW, believe I heard that is their first ever 5* kid.

Big Xll football should be really great this year. OU is at the top, deservedly so even without Baker they have alot on O to do damage with, like Bhawk says, it is always the D that you worry about. But otherwise try picking who finishes 2nd or even last in the Big Xll. KU should be last, but they could also win maybe as many as 4 games this year? I see the league being super competitive and should produce good games weekly. Teams seem really even this year outside of OU. Texas might be ready to turn a corner and WVU has big expectations. But Baylor will be better, ISU will still be solid, OK St will drop off, but will still be decent, seems a little easy to overlook TCU which is never good. K St is typically tough. They are playing D at TTech for a change.

Here is something I saw on Kansas State won 5 games last year where their opponent outgained them in total yards. Vs Baylor -31, Vs Kansas -142, Vs TTech -119, Vs Ok St -89, Vs ISU -115. Some of those are huge yardage discrepancies to still win a game while being outgained like that. But that is kind of KSt's MO, turnovers, special teams, smoke and mirrors, they make a living out of winning games like that almost annually. Still just to realize that of their 6 wins vs IA/FBS/P5 teams last year, they only outgained 1 of the 6 teams they beat...which was UCLA without Rosen.

Speaking of Northwestern, They have a really good home schedule; Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Notre Dame out of their seven games. You can buy single game tickets to any of them except for Michigan & Notre Dame. You can only get those if you buy season tickets. Pretty good way to shake money out of people.

Can't say that I blame them. There will be more fans there of both other teams than there will be for Northwestern.

Can tickets be had for cheap for a Big Ten home game?

$2 OR $3 too rich for your blood?

If you've never been to a Northwestern game, plan a trip to Chicago. Evanston is just a short train ride away. Campus is a short walk from the train station. The stadium is really cool. Much smaller than Michigan or Michigan State. I think even MAC schools like Western or Central Michigan.

I want to visit all the Big Ten stadiums but would prefer to see a Big Ten matchup.

Gotcha. The only cheap Northwestern Big Ten game is the last game of the season against Illinois, November 24th. Thanksgiving weekend though. That's rivalry weekend across the country and that's as close as those two have to having a rival since they are in the same state I guess.

You can get in for seven bucks.

nebish - 8/7/2018 at 09:13 PM

Bad news, sounds like could be some trouble in T-Town as Jalen Hurts expresses some dissatisfaction with team communication with him. Not surprising in the times we live, his father is speaking out to, it may be a forgone conclusion that Hurts will be a grad transfer after this season. Adding to the story, Saban had said a couple months ago he had "no idea" if Hurts would be on the roster for week 1. Rare for such an issue to arise on a Nick Saban team with as much influence and control he has over the players and the media.

Good news, Yahoo's Fantasy App has pick'em leagues capability this year!

porkchopbob - 8/7/2018 at 10:55 PM

I just got tickets to Wisconsin vs uh, New Mexico. Haven't been to a UW football game since I was a sophomore in college, used to live right next door to the stadium. Figured I'd go since I'll be in town for my parents' 50th anniversary. Camp Randall always has a great scene, we always partied with the alumni as they wandered through their old hood (or parked on our lawn), fed them some brats and beers so I guess it's my turn now

Yes, roles reversed! Sounds like a great time!

3 weeks until the first Thursday of the season!

Just looked at the line on the Michigan / Notre Dame game. Opening line was ND by seven. Now it's 2.5. That's quite a swing.

I thought I saw Michigan was always favored in that one. What site do you use?

Lee - 8/10/2018 at 11:14 AM

The first post of this thread. Unless I read it wrong I thought it said ND -7. Not sure why Michigan would be favored on the road in that one. Don't know.

I still can't bet futures for whatever reason. I want to bet the over / under on a few teams.

nebish - 8/10/2018 at 11:26 AM

They did have 7 but got pounded and they moved it to 1. Odds makers whiffed on that one. Usually early season opening numbers have low max bets to protect the books if the market finds an error.

Lee - 8/12/2018 at 11:07 AM

Michigan is now - 2.5. If it moves to 3 before the game I'll bite and take the points. Not sure how a line can move 9.5 points within a few weeks though.

Lee - 8/12/2018 at 11:23 AM

Curious: What do you mean by "got pounded"? By what? Money moving? Obviously not a game since nobody has played yet. Sure seems like a lot for a line to move that much when no games have been played yet. At least ND has a QB with some semblance of a track record. Hopefully Michigan's new guy can do something I guess.

nebish - 8/12/2018 at 12:45 PM

Yeah, "pounded" meaning the sportsbook online or in Vegas took alot of action on one side.

There is another website I frequent for college football called capping the game and people were posting there people's twitter and stuff on how large bets would be made on certain win totals or games were the players/bettors obviously found a flaw or weakness in the early number. The sportsbook hopes to limit their exposure on the early numbers because people who bet for a living or are really good at it can have a huge advantage in knowing personnel and what a number should be, so when the book releases a number vastly different from their's they pounce.

I do think Michigan should be favored at Notre Dame and expect them to win.

ND does return Wimbush as well as Book, but Wimbush is going to have to elevate his game to a much higher level this year for ND to be more successful. And while generally you can expect players to get better with time and experience, it is going to be hard for him because he loses two great OL protecting him. ND's OL will still be good, but losing two first round DCs you'd expect them to be down a notch atleast early in the season. Then Wimbush has also lost alot of weapons around him, RB Adams is gone, #1 WR St Brown is gone (2 of top 3 receivers gone), so more is going to be expected of Wimbush and based on his poor passing last year, it could be difficult for him to come out of the gate and just carry the team on his shoulders.

Couple that with Michigan's D, which is to me, one of the top 5 Ds in the country. ND's O is going to face significant challenges in this game I think.

Michigan's O is not without question of it's own. Patterson is good player from Ole Miss, but coming to a new team with a new system and getting chemistry with his new teammates can't be understated. And playing on the road vs ND's solid D adds to that as well. I think Patterson having played against good Ds in the SEC in hostile environments will help him. And then looking at the Michigan offense as a whole, and contrasting it with Notre Dame, Michigan returns all their key skill players, while ND is replacing them. I expect big years from Tarik Black and People-Jones in their second season now. It is going to all come down to Michigan's OL which has under achieved and is perhaps lacking on talent.

Michigan's offense at times last year was simply bad. Tons of sacks allowed, threw more INTs than TD passes, bad ypp, ppg, Michigan's O was one of the worst in the Big Ten last year. I expect that to change this season as long as Patterson adapts well. Combine that with Michigan's D which I think will be even better this year, having potential to be among the nation's best for sure makes for a team that should be as good as 10-2, if not even better. They get it started week 1 with a W.

Lee - 8/12/2018 at 03:10 PM

Not to call you out but another curious question; if you think Michigan is going to win, did you bet on them getting seven?

nebish - 8/12/2018 at 04:38 PM

I wish! My favorite and most exciting bets are money lining underdogs to win straight up, especially finding ones getting a TD or more. I would've loved some of that action!! But I do not have any online accounts and don't do any early betting.

On another Big Ten note, after the Urban Meyer thing, now we have the story at Maryland unfolding. Just wow. To think that some of the coaching practices may've caused one of the players death...wow. Not to take the focus off of the seriousness there, Maryland over 5.5 was one of my most favorite win total plays. Since I do not play anything early, probably 2 weeks out from getting those in yet, with this coming to light and everything that comes with a situation like this it makes me reconsider playing that one.

Lee - 8/12/2018 at 08:18 PM

Yeah and apparently a few of his staff were part of it. Didn't that kind of happen several years ago with Craig James' kid I want to say with Mike Leach?

Lee - 8/12/2018 at 08:26 PM

I have a buddy (young guy) who likes to bet. He'll purchase an extra half point on a game. Say, take it from 7 to 7.5 or the other way if you want the underdog. Probably wouldn't make sense for a baseball game but it could make sense for a football game.

Yup, you're in.

If you have any questions once the picks come up for week 1 let us know. One thing that has been confusing before is some of the games on there might be a game like Texas A&M against Northwestern State. NW St is a IAA/FCS team and yahoo does not post point spreads for those matchups so it will just say 'off' where the spread would normally be. That just means you pick the straight up winner.

We are dropping everyone's worst week, so don't worry if you have a bad week or forget to get the games in. You get a mulligan.

So 5 of us now. Lots of past players need to sign up yet. 2.5 weeks away til first full weekend starts!

Pretty sure I'm out too. Both local sports accountants have gone to handling things online through a website offshore. Not sure I'm at all interested in doing that. So, likely won't take the time to make picks all through the season.

But this way, there will be a new champ this year.

I went to UMass for a summer session many moons ago. Go Minutemen!!

Watching NC A&T vs Jacksonville State; it's on ESPN. What the hell!

Look for the Gators to make plenty of noise this season. They've got talent on both sides of the ball plus Dan Mullens is a great coach. He knows out to develop QBs.

GO BRUINS!

nebish - 8/27/2018 at 01:55 PM

Big loss for Michigan with Tarik Black's injury. He missed 10 games with a right foot injury last year, now he injured his other foot in camp. Black flashed some promise last season and was going to be a big part of a potentially improved Michigan O this season.

Bhawk - 8/27/2018 at 03:39 PM

Nice teasers on Saturday night. Wasn't expecting that kind of offensive output from Hawai'i and Wyoming was supposed to be terrible.

sckeys - 8/27/2018 at 04:51 PM

I just seen where Clemson is using the QB from last yr in the opener with Furman. That shouldnít be much of a challenge game.

Lee - 8/27/2018 at 05:39 PM

Just saw this thing on ESPN that lists the Heisman favorites and Alabama QB Tagovailoa is their favorite. I found that interesting.

Yeah that sucks. But they are going to have to rely on defense this season anyway so maybe they can fill in that hole.

Yes you are right, but that is what they did last year, rely on the defense and that got them 8-5 with loses to the other big 3 in the East.

No doubt that D will lead the way again, but improvement must be had on offense. An expanded role for a healthy Black was going to fill that hole. Not sure what other underwhelming upperclassman they have to utilize unless there is a freshman we don't know about.

Not like a single WR can totally change my opinion on a team's fortune's, but I went from optimistic they could win as many as 10 games, now the toss-up games, like ND week 1, have become more difficult I think without a talent like Black available.

nebish - 8/28/2018 at 09:05 PM

Great Lee, glad you are in!

The deadline technically would be 5+ minutes before the kickoff of the first game. However, I believe you can sign up for the yahoo sports leagues during the season, and since we drop everyone's single worst week, it is possible that somebody could sign up for week 2 and play it out from there with week 1 being their dropped week. Not 100% sure on that, but I think yahoo let's people join after the season.

But at this point we have most of our regulars and we've atleast heard form oldcoot and sang on their intentions. I did email Alan, so hopefully he will join as he has always been in the leagues. Then we can find one more for a dozen!

There are always alot of games to pick the first 2 weeks because so many teams play their fcs/IAA nonconference opponents. Those games do not have point spreads, just pick the winner. Sometimes those IAA boys beat their IA counterparts. I think I was the only one who picked James Madison to beat ECU last year. NCSt is a tougher foe for them this year and I haven't read up on JMU yet this season.

nebish - 8/28/2018 at 09:08 PM

What games do you all plan to make it to this year?

I only make 1 a year, some off the radar game usually.

This year we are going to Morgantown for the Baylor - WVU game Thursday night! We may also go to a Buffalo Bulls home game on some MACtion night in November.

So the lines that are currently off won't have a line?

Everyone knows that Muschamp teams can typically play some D, it's just the O on his watch never pulls their weight.

Yeah, but isn't the scoop on that team supposed to be offense this year?

What I love about us, the good guys, playing them this year is that so many people are saying they will beat us. So, this game isn't going to slip up on us - the good guys.

Yahoo never does point spreads for games involving FCS/IAA teams. So those will still say 'off' Friday. Otherwise they put the line off if there is some injury, weather or other issue where books are unsure of line adjustment. I don't know what source yahoo uses. Just know that whatever the Friday spread is on there will be the official and final number for right/wrong picks.

Alright Chris is in house tonight too!

I recall Muschamp saying he wish he had OC Roper earlier at Florida, now he is the scapegoat for last season's O issues.

They say the O is supposed to be better. Not knowing any philosophical changes, I would say it should because I believe there is potential there. Then again Will has only had a decent O once in 6 years as a head coach so something with him could be constraining his offenses. Bentley is fine but I have yet to see him really develop, may be it will happen this year, maybe it can't happen. Just hope Deebo can stay healthy because he is fun!

Yeah, I've heard so many people on that SC team week 2. But you have to love that right? It adds to the game, not just that gamecock fans are running their mouth, but there seems to be Georgia doubters all over. Georgia is only going to get better and better and better. So if SC is going to get you, this is probably their best chance.

Michigan / Notre Dame

Washington / Auburn

Virginia Tech / Florida State

I just heard about the GA doubters from a bud at lunch. USC fans have been focused on this yrs Clemson game for many months since they touted that 5 in a row thing to no end themselves. They focus much more on hate for Clem that supporting usc.

Most everyone here has a team, or conference or region they follow. Pretty easy to pick up on most o of the time.

Who's your team? ACC, SEC?

I live in NE Ohio. Grew up a Nebraska fan in the late 80s and 90s. Lost touch with them when they fired Solich and never reconnected. Just can't recreate some things. Now I just try and follow every team, literally. Every team can be my favorite team on any given week. I just love college football!

I've bled Bruin Blue and Gold since I was 9. I've attended games from Seattle to Annapolis and many points in between and not just UCLA games. Over the years, I've adopted other teams. My current ones are Northwestern (Pat Fitzgerald is the most under-rated coach in the country), Colorado (can't ask for a better location to see a football game) Auburn (I like the town, the colors, and the fans).

Programs I want to see go 0-12 are BYU and kal. I find BYU arrogant and kal's fans pathetic.

Can't beat college football tailgating either. It is the best and for many times over the last 20 seasons, the tailgate has been the highlight of Bruin football.

Hopefully CCK takes UCLA to The Promised Land one day. We'll see. GO BRUINS!

Last night was fun. Enjoyed the NW-Pur game. Wish I had enjoyed the WF-Tulane game a little more with Wave losing in OT. Alot of failed opportunities for Wave in that one, but WF was better team. Really impressed with the true FR QB for WF Hartman playing his first ever live snaps of college football. Watched some Kennesaw - Georgia State game along with the SE Louisiana and ULM game. Those were some pretty good ones.

Nice little slate of games tonight. Can't wait!

Looking to see how CSU rebounds in their second game vs CU in the Rocky Mountain Showdown. I'm expecting CSU to really bring it tonight, think they are good value getting over a TD.

Michigan State should be really good this year, although I can't help it, I am kind of a Utah State fan too. Really tough game for the Aggies here, think they have a nice little team this season, will be interested to see how much they can challenge MSU.

Expect Cuse to win at WMich. Love P5 teams going to these small school stadiums. Think WM will have a really nice running game, but that is about all they have. If Cuse can load up to stop it I don;t believe WM has it through the air or in the D to win. Really like Eric Dungey's game for Cuse as well.

Army - Duke and San Diego State - Stanford definitely have my attention as well.

It's going to be a good night!

5 games tonight on the pick'em. Still time for anyone to sign up!!!

I have seven out of eight correct in my pool that really matters ($$$) so I am happy at the moment.

Today should be fun. Supposed to be hot, humid and rainy here in Chicago so while not really football weather, I'll take it. Wouldn't mind tailgaiting though!

GO BLUE!

Typical September day here in So Cal. Off to friends this afternoon for all things football. GO BRUINS!

Iíve got Michigan in my other pick. Nice day to start a season.

IPowrie - 9/1/2018 at 03:30 PM

I generally like Michigan State but when I saw that Utah State had a shot at the upset I was rooting for them. The fans at that game got there moneys worth.

It's going to be a long season for the Bruins. UCLA visits Oklahoma next Saturday...

leafsfan - 9/4/2018 at 08:07 PM

Washington shot themselves in the foot on three occasions but some of the calls or missed calls going Auburns way could have been evened out a bit.

Why are there no kickoff classic games outside the southeast? The "neutral site" is a bit of a stretch when game is an hours drive or less from the state of ALabama.

Ducks!!!!

nebish - 9/5/2018 at 03:35 AM

I agree on the neutral site thing, having it in someone's backyard makes it worse. I like home-and-home better, but that is where the money is...lots of money on those neutral site games.

Why all in the south...maybe because it just means more?

The people that put those games together likely just consider where they will get the best turnout, where the highest concentration of fans willing to come to the games reside. Would be great to see some games like that outwest, but the PAC12 can't fill their stadium in the title games. PAC12 teams don't fill neutral site stadiums the way SEC teams do.

nebish - 9/5/2018 at 03:37 AM

So week 1 in the books, what did you all think?

I had nice Thursday, Friday and Mondays. Saturday wasn't as fun as I had hoped, but even the worst day of college football is better than...just about every other day!

I thought that was a fun game to watch. A few mistakes but entertaining nonetheless.

Lee - 9/5/2018 at 09:32 PM

Might go to the Northwestern / Duke game Saturday morning / afternoon. Hard to beat two bucks for a ticket and I don't think I will be missing much on TV that afternoon. No early games I really care about.

Bhawk - 9/5/2018 at 10:11 PM

College GameDay Sign of the Week..."Jesus Hates Khakis"

Speaking of, Harbaugh is...underwhelming so far in his tenure in Ann Arbor. Just IMO.

Oklahoma looked fantastic!

Out here on the fruited plain...K-State let South Dakota hang around way too long and almost paid the price. Not a good look with Mississippi State coming into Manhattan this weekend.

Kansas...close the program. Shut it down. I've been giving grief to Jayhawks around me all week. If they can't get some of the basketball money and the wealthy alumni (of which there are several) to replace that dump of a stadium and repair that dump of a program then they should all be publicly ridiculed for thinking they are anywhere close to being a true Power 5 school.

Penn State...see K-State.

Miami...never left the locker room, was a little surprising. LSU remains an unknown, though.

Saban didn't really need to snap at that reporter, did he?

I didn't think that Ohio State would really cover, but those are some bad Beavers, apparently.

sckeys - 9/5/2018 at 11:22 PM

I like the above summary. I hope things go better this week. Maybe I wonít nap as much and can get involved.

StratDal - 9/5/2018 at 11:28 PM

quote:

If it's close by, WTH. NW is a good squad that has a good coach. Duke has improved under David Cutliff. It should be an entertaining game.

nebish - 9/6/2018 at 02:45 AM

Yes, going to the Duke - NW game should be fantastic. I really thought that Duke QB Daniel Jones was playing with confidence again after a rough and banged up last year for him. Duke has a good team. So does Northwestern. If you live that close and have nothing better to do, it sounds like a great idea!

Yes Oklahoma, wow. FAU not be a fast D compared to the team speed that OU has, but they are a really veteran unit and the fact that they offered zero resistance was surprising. In hindsight, with the new FAU QB (former OU) after having a cool-handed Driskel last year was an underestimated loss. Interesting to see where FAU goes from here (host Air Force this week - FAU lost to Navy last year). Lane Kiffin got fed a big ole pile of humble pile in that one.

I could not find that Kansas State game to watch, I saw they were trailing late and wanted to see it. Looks like KSt kicked FGs from the 7, 5, 21 and 27. Those are some short FGs. South Dakota is a good team and all, but if you are KSt you got to have some better finishes to those drives. Then they handed SD 10 pts off turnovers with a short field FG and pick-six. WR Zuber to the rescue with the punt ret TD and the TD catch. Barnes fumbled twice. Miss State was sure a well oiled machine last year, looking forward to this one. The Game Of The Year spread on this one was 2.5 in the summer, it is up to 8.5 now. That is alot of pts for a road fav going to Manhattan with a new coaching staff and a QB coming off a broken leg having not played a snap yet this year.

Kansas Jayhawks. Again, sometimes it helps to know who the good teams are in FCS/IAA, but I expected KU to beat Nicholls even though Nicholls was a playoff team I believe last year. And it wasn't really even like KU played well and just made some bad plays to help out Nicholls. Nicholls actually made some bad plays to help KU stay in the game. Well there was a bad facemask penalty on the Nicholls QB to keep a drive alive. But I think KU got a free safety on a bad punt and then Nicholls muffed a punt at the 10 and KU got a free TD out of that. Nicholls sacked them 6x! Funny I still think KU can win this week at Central Mich, but KU hasn't won a road game in how many games, like 40 or something? They hired Jeff Long for AD, he is a CFB guy. Just don't know what they can do to turn it around. We remember the dark days of Northwestern and Kansas State and Temple and Oregon State (who is bad again), those teams reinvented themselves at one point in time, how can Kansas do it. Like it was just over 10 years ago they were in the Orange Bowl!

I don't know I could talk about college football forever. Wednesday is almost over that means just 2 more days and a wake up to another fantastic Saturday!

Iím on it here in a few mins. I was reading some previews.

Lee - 9/8/2018 at 12:15 PM

Looking forward to today's games.

I know Oklahoma is really good but giving 30 to UCLA? 30???

Yeah, Kansas is bad. An underdog at Central Michigan? They are a MAC school.

My in laws live right across the street from Ross Aid Stadium and go to every game. Purdue better win today after losing there last week.

"The Bear", that guy on ESPN says to take Arkansas St +36.5 against Bama. I dunno about that. He also said Duke will win today at NW.

Should be a fun day!

sckeys - 9/8/2018 at 02:32 PM

I wondered that about OK too. I went with the big spreads on a few teams as 30 seems a lot. I did take Bama tho.

It looks to be a fun day.

sckeys - 9/9/2018 at 03:13 AM

Not my day.

nebish - 9/9/2018 at 04:51 AM

Fun night!! And it is going on 1am and there are still 4 games on!

nebish - 9/9/2018 at 12:53 PM

Streaks that ended yesterday:

Michigan threw a TD pass to a WR (364 days)

Kansas celebrates a road win (46 games, 2009)

And Bill, this one is for you....Kentucky snaps the nations longest series losing streak beating Florida (31 years, 1986)!

sckeys - 9/9/2018 at 03:53 PM

Clemson had a close one. My picks were horrible and I hope you folks had a better day.

leafsfan - 9/9/2018 at 04:56 PM

Great day of football, Colorado game was a good on in Lincoln. Buffalo QB and WR we're a great tandem.

Pitt must be really bad to get face-washed that bad, Ball State scared the Alter Boys and the ND faithful.

The Quack keeps on churning over another cream puff. One more easy one against San Jose State then the Tree comes to Eugene. That's going to be big time.

Putting 25 up yesterday was a return to my former glory days. I don't expect that to last.

QUACKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee - 9/9/2018 at 05:24 PM

Only lost two games that I bet. Both Big Ten. Northwestern's offense was nonexistent and Michigan State couldn't really get going, although their D played well.

Colorado game was fun. Should have bet against Notre Dame.

oldcoot - 9/10/2018 at 06:35 PM

Huskers showed some real areas of improvement and yet a lot of first game mistakes.

Should have had the Buffs 4th & 24 with less than two minutes left. Really, really dumb personal foul penalty though. That was absolutely the right call. Didn't expect a bonehead play like that coming from a more experienced player.

Really great improvement on the pass rush, seven sacks. Only had 14 all of last year, which is really pathetic.

nebish - 9/10/2018 at 06:37 PM

A good old face-washing reference! Yes!

I thought Pitt competed pretty well in that first half, but too many mistakes just accumulated and then PSU is plenty capable of pouncing and they did in the second half.

Northwestern was stopped on downs 4x and those two INTs...That was unfortunate for the Cats. Duke just played D and tried killing the clock the entire second half. Sucks that Jones got hurt, hope he can come back soon but I'm a little pessimistic on that.

Sorry to have disappointed you. First time since 1971 UCLA has started off 0-3. And after last night, I don't know if it's going to get better this season.

Yeah that 2nd H didn't go well. Took a chance on them figuring some things out at home in game 3. Didn't look like they have anything figured out yet and now Thompson-Robinson's Dad is tweeting his displeasure about Chip Kelly. His son is a true freshman and Chip is in a major project. What is it with UCLA player parents? Well, it isn't just UCLA but just weird they just went through the whole Lavar Ball thing now this.

Bhawk - 3 games on the Friday pick'em.

Pretty excited for this FAU-UCF game. Then the night cap Wazzou at USC. A little Penn St - ILL in between to see how Lovie's team looks in year 3 for his B1G opener.

I don't see them losing at home but covering 18 might be a stretch.

I was somewhat surprised Illinois got pounded at home last night as bad as they did.

Sang - 9/22/2018 at 07:57 PM

Illinois was actually winning the game, and were only a few down going into the 4th quarter - then they got outscored 35-0 in the 4th....

There were some good games yesterday though.

That Oregon Stanford game was something.

Army taking Oklahoma to OT?

Couldn't believe how well Purdue played.

And closer to home, I won a bet with my neighbor on the Michigan State Indiana game. She owes me $20.

StratDal - 9/24/2018 at 12:22 AM

Anyone catch any of the Old Dominion/Va Tech game?! When I saw it listed on the tv channel menu, I LOL'd big time; BFD! Well as I'm checking the channels, OD is ahead. I figured WTH and watched the last 10 minutes. Props to OD for pulling it off. Their RB looked Edgeran James running through UCLA back in the day...

Good bet there will be a baby boom in Norfolk in about 9 months!

leafsfan - 9/24/2018 at 10:10 PM

**** a duck!!! They had them and then pooooooof it was gone!!!

Really still in shock w outcome.

I thought the officiating was terrible. Not sure there we're any guys in the booth to call down.

Oregon looks to be back but if anything Stanford looks mighty. They have more tall guys then most Cdn basketball teams. Their twin tower tight ends we're killers on Saturday.

USC Wash State game was a good one too. Things got goofy in LA in the fourth. The missed targeting call was pathetic.

Again the guys upstairs we're at the buffet table when that happened. Anyone watching saw the blatant hit to the head.

PAC12 is looking good and only going to get better with Oregon back.

DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Playing against the spreads this week in hopes of a change.

nebish - 9/29/2018 at 02:30 PM

Was thinking about you guys last week, lots of games involving our ABB friends.

I think Nebraska bounces back today. I like them coming home off embarrassing loss to home fans. What you going to do hide? Bet the show out today. Both home games were winnable even though they played Troy with backup QB. Martinez said to be fully healthy for today. You never know what Purdue will do to cost them a game.

Would've called for a NW upset of Michigan today but then got the Larkin news. Big blow, they are going to have to get really creative now with their O gameplan vs what was already a daunting task vs that D.

Think SC beats UK today (finally). UK owns them of late, 5 straight. SC's O will be the difference I think.

leafsfan, oh man. I had Ducks last week too, that one hurt...bad. You think they can get off the mat at Cal? Cal head coach played at Oregon. Cal is tough. If Oregon's head is right I think they win though. Cal tough on D, respectable on O but not enough O in my opinion. Quack!

Strat! Your Bruins played so well in the first half. They had energy, looked like they were having fun, thought they might be turning a corner, then the second half came and CU just rolled. That was a hard one to swallow because the schedule doesn't appear to offer too many positives upcoming.

Bet DanB is excited for the Trevor Lawrence era to begin. Big revenge game here. Cuse is tough though. I love Eric Dungey, just the kind of college QB I love, big-physical runner, great arm strength, good enough with accuracy. Nothing personal, I hope Cuse can keep it close again for a good game. Boy Clemson D is pissed about last year though.

Thanks nebish. I missed the game due to my son's band performance at the local HS's football game (at least they won!). Yep. For all sorts of reasons, UCLA is a bad team. Fans are mad at CCK. Not that we expected to be in the playoff, but the inept play by the team is really surprising. Like you said about the schedule, the Bruins may be lucky if they win 2 games. As the saying goes, that's football.

eFf the gamecocks great win by Kentucky - USC looked inept at times on offense
defense has some thugs on it that have no discipline and this reflects on Muschump

Bad that Trevor got hurt but he'll be back next week. Brice settled down once Renfroe made a spectacular catch. He died a bullet on 4th & 6 on the last drive and ran for a 12 yd gain on the next play.

I kept screaming run the ball because Cuse couldn't stop the run no matter who carried the rock. ET is a special back! 203 yards and 3 td's should put him in the heisman conversation.

Nope, not this year. Even with the officials trying their best to beat us. They may have done it to us for next weeks game against A&M. The late hit by Kash Daniels was not targeting IMO. It looked like he hit him with the shoulder below the shoulder pads. Then the fumbled lateral that was ruled a forward pass, but we overcame it.

Our defense is just too good. Josh Allen is one of the best linebackers in the country, he had three sacks in spite of being held on every play. I liked him since day one. I thought he was a football player the first time I saw him. He's since grown a couple inches and put on about 60 pounds.

We lost our second left tackle this season but Mark Stoops has built a deep team but hopefully E J Clark can stay healthy or then we might be in trouble.

This team is doing things that hasn't been done since Bear Bryant was here with the 1950 team.

Go Big Blue

You canít go out the door around here without stepping on a SC fan and they are steaming. Not at Kentucky but calling for coaches to go and hating Clemson as usual. A guy said today that the only good thing for USC was Kentucky burning the clock.

I thought along the same lines, would get max effort and playing at home. Not to be. Literally, could be looking at 1-11. In the past, we went close to a decade with about that number of losses. I've thought all along that it would be year three with Frost before we were solid. At the same time, I thought we'd be around .500 this year.

Things could really get ugly in Madison as our line play (on both sides of the ball) is lacking. And lacking rhymes with shellacking.

Here's a weekly reusable joke for the way things are going:

"Knock knock"

Scott Frost: "Who's there?"

"Owen"

Frost: "Owen who?"

"0-4"

And you go to Wisconsin this week. Good Lord....

Yes, it is great to see Kentucky football playing well. Hated to undersell them last week, but I thought that SCar would have some answers after losing to them 4 straight and some confidence on O out of the Vandy game. But man, I can't imagine the disappointment for an SC fan right now...they were less competitive vs Georgia this year and make no mistake about it, UK is above them in SEC pecking order. Even heard a bench Bentley and fire Muschamp comment.

Nebraska was really disappointing Saturday. The penalties. So many penalties at horrible times. The O in the 2nd H was able to trade scores, but when the D needed a stop, Purdue would just score again. Still think there are positives from the Nebraska home games this year, but too many mistakes and deficiencies to win games. Wisconsin did win at Iowa, but they are not as strong as they were last year. Hard to see Nebraska competing. Unexpected things do happen though.

Will be interested to see the Clemson WF game this week. WF has a pretty good O, but a really bad D. Clemson when clicking has an outstanding O so I expect Clemson to get theirs. WF OL is a strength, so the matchup in the trenches may not tilt as strongly in Clemson's favor as it normally does. Should be a fun game.

I get that Bama has more guys going to the NFL then any other program and that anyone would love to have most of their players on their team but jes louise can they at least play someone tough before they are give the golden key to the trophy case.

They haven't played anyone difficult yet and yes they can probably beat anyone but this show up and your number one crap is terrible for the College game. At least ND and Ohio have taken some risk. Bama will play Auburn and Georgia and that's it until the playoffs. I know schedules are set years in advance but rankings should reflect your schedule not your roster.

I know beating a dead horse year after year on this topic. Saban said on Saturday that giving up 31 points to Arkansas is like losing the game. Watch kind of nazi mother **** coach is this guy?

Vent complete, go DUCKS!!!!!

I thought the same thing when I saw that. Remember the game a few years ago when they were destroying someone in the fourth quarter and he was screaming at Lane Kiffin? Does he expect to win every game 70-0?

63-3 was a ton of fun. 3 guys rushed for over a 120 yards. CU averaged 11.8 yds per rush.

Stupid Auburn. Way to screw the pooch Nebraska. Gators did what they had to do.

LSU is ahead of UGA 19-3 but UGA is driving. 4th quarter coming up.

Bruins play kal at 4 pm PDT. Hopefully we get our first win.

Enjoying some nice fall weather here in So Cal (finally rained!) while sipping my usual along with some cool tunes. College football Rocks! GO BRUINS!

I took a bath on that GA game. Glad I slept thru the 2nd half.

nebish - 10/14/2018 at 03:52 AM

Strat! Bet you couldn't be happier win #1 came at the hands of Kal as you call them!

Looked at my sheet for my picks yesterday and crumpled it up for the trash. Surprisingly I won money on the games I put bets on. Watching the Michigan line move through the week I was apprehensive. When it got to 10 I thought someone knows something. So I loaded up on them.

Loved LSU at home. I can't believe the rout that was. Met a Michigan State buddy yesterday and said I really liked MSU and the points. He sent me an email thanking me. I told him I liked the points but didn't think they could win in Happy Valley.

Thought Illinois could cover 10 at home against Purdue. Boy was I wrong on that one.

Oregon / Washington game was something. I hate that timeout at the last second but it seems to work.

And Nebraska still have't won a game. Crazy.

DanB - 10/14/2018 at 02:27 PM

and your preseason national champs, the Gamecocks, are now 3-3

Will Muschump stated he was bringing championships to SC
