Thread: Hollywood gushes over Oprah

Hollywood Liberals seem to have found a new savior.

Your hero loves her, why don't you?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/trump-relationship-wit h-oprah-winfrey-2018-1

President Donald Trump has long admired Oprah Winfrey, the much-beloved media mogul and self-made billionaire. But that may change now that Winfrey is reportedly considering a 2020 presidential bid herself.

Trump has spoken glowingly of Winfrey over the last few decades, even telling TV host Larry King in 1999 that Winfrey would be his top pick for a vice presidential running mate, should he run.

"I love Oprah. Oprah would always be my first choice," Trump told King. "She's a terrific woman, she's somebody that's very special. If she'd do it, she'd be fantastic. She's popular, she's brilliant, she's a wonderful woman."

And in 2015, Trump again suggested he might pick Winfrey as his presidential running mate, telling ABC News's George Stephanopoulos that the two would "win easily" if they teamed up.

"I like Oprah, what can I tell you?" Trump said in the interview. "She's great, she's talented, she's a friend of mine, she's a good person. I've been on her show. … I like Oprah, is that supposed to be a bad thing? I'd love to have Oprah, I think we'd win easily, actually."

porkchopbob - 1/9/2018 at 05:06 PM

Brilliant Man's Brilliant Daughter also gushed over Oprah's speech that was aimed mostly at Gross "Brilliant" Man

That is, Ivanka Trump agrees with Oprah and wants to hold gross men accountable but isn't quite smart enough to realize the whole TimesUp movement began with her father.

https://www.avclub.com/ivanka-trump-liked-apparently-misunderstood-oprah-s- go-1821910911

quote:
When Oprah Winfrey delivered her impassioned speech Sunday night, in which she acknowledged the struggle of abuse victims from all walks of life and vocalized her hope for a better future for the young girls watching at home, she no doubt hoped her message would be championed by women everywhere. What she probably didn’t expect was for one of those women to be Ivanka Trump. But that’s exactly what happened Monday night when Ivanka inexplicably retweeted Oprah’s speech saying how empowering and inspiring it was.

It should be noted that Ivanka Trump has a history of not understanding how words work, so it’s possible she didn’t know who Oprah was referring to when she said we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to “corruption,” “injustice,” and “tyrants.” Presumably, she also didn’t see the contradiction in tweeting “#TimesUp” when her father stands accused of numerous accounts of sexual assault and misconduct. Coming off of the explosive #MeToo movement, the Time’s Up campaign has been a rallying cry for those showing solidarity against systemic sexism. But it’s also lent its name to a legal fund which helps tangibly support victims of abuse, something actress Alyssa Milano was happy to inform Ivanka about.

Also, thanks to the handy @TrumpsAlert bot, which reports on the social media maneuverings of the Trump family, we know that, soon after watching Oprah’s speech, Ivanka starting following Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on Twitter. The Great Moderator Ivanka Trump is getting 2018 off to a great start.

I think it is painfully obvious what the likes of goob and muleturd don’t like about the likes of Oprah.
It’s not because she’s black, it’s because it should be ok to be “proud” to be white.

Mule seems to be very concerned all of a sudden about black violence in Chicago, so it can't be because she is black. Maybe because because she is female. I've seen no evidence here that they are concerned about women.

lukester420 - 1/10/2018 at 03:24 AM

I don’t know, one might argue that his obsession with the content of Hilary’s stool could be spun as concern for her well being.

It will be fascinating to see the ways they will rip on Oprah, carefully trying to never let on why they hate her.

Stay tuned, good season of Whipping Post in the offing. Bumper crop of idiocy predicted.

If I did I'm pretty sure 100% of them would consider you an idiot. Those cities are Democratic because Republicans offer zero hope for them. No solutions to their problems. Violence in Chicago started to spike when their handgun ban was overturned. Yet you blame the Democrats. I'm sure those tax cuts for millionaires are really going to help out those in the bad intercity neighborhoods.

Republicans promote personal responsibility junior.
The illegal guns have been rampant during the failed Obama administration.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act favors the working class and has nothing to do with the failure of the Democrats to ensure public safety in the cities they control.

Suck it up son. The left has failed to protect the people they claim to represent.

Now go back to your celebrity worship act.

I think Oprah entering the political rehelm would be great. The more the merrier! Not sure I would agree with her on alot, but I don't know what she has to say on alot. I voted for Bernie Sanders in the primaries so anything is possible. I still long for less career politicians in our system. We have Trump...my jury is out on that still even though most have made up their minds one way or the other. It's not exactly what I had in mind sp far, but it is what it is. Oprah as President may not be what I have in mind either, but I'd likely prefer her over a politician.

BoytonBrother - 1/11/2018 at 01:30 AM

Anyone who is all of a sudden angered by Oprah, for giving a speech about standing up to sexual harrassment, really needs to stay home. If something like that bothers them, then they are going to have a tough time in the world.

So, lots of replies BUT only one stepped forward and said, "I think this is a good thing." Thats surprising to me. I was on the TRUMP TRAIN pretty early on.. .. Democrats are unsure it seems. Fair enough, plenty of time to see what democratic leaders want to step up and make a play. After all, all democrats have to do is find someone more appealing than Tim Kaine and Hillary.

I certainly can't say I'm excited to have Oprah as a candidate, and I would guess there will be another Democratic candidate I prefer. I would actually prefer to have someone with political experience, seeing how bad our current president has worked out. However, anyone would be better than Trump. I could imagine a lot of Democratic candidates who would be embarrassing, but none could be more embarrassing than Trump.

MartinD28 - 1/11/2018 at 01:06 PM

I saw a female Republican on TV the other night saying she would consider voting for "The Rock", as he had joked about running for prez. She then went on to say she would even vote for "a rock" over Donald Trump.

That's a pretty fair comparison - the intelligence & abilities of Donald Trump versus a rock.

Do you think the American people would be bamboozled twice in a row if Trump, the con runs again? Highly doubtful.

Look at all the GOP Congressmen choosing not to seek reelection. Got any idea why they are not seeking another term? You think it has anything to do with Trump's lack of popularity and the disdain for a guy still in the low / mid 30's which are record lows for prez approvals? He's quite the anchor on the GOP.

Thought this gave good overview of the competitiveness in the House. In terms of what they consider "competitive districts", this piece shows 13 Republican and 10 Democrats retiring. Either way, it is a high number and I bet some of these Republicans would rather go out while in office rather than ending their careers with a tough loss. Mid term elections are historically difficult for the incumbent party of the White House anyway.

The NYT story is also states 30 Congressmen, but there are only 13 in what they call "competitive districts", nearly an equal number of Democrats retiring in what they consider "competitive". Competitive based off of what the Presidential election results where.

But thank you for your link, it includes Governors, which the Times story does not. Are there any Democrat Governors retiring or running for higher office?

Because that's all they have. It's similar to the way Trump conducts himself several times a day, if not weekly. Constantly he's still reminding of us that he won. Doesn't the fool get it that people realize it? He probably does this to reassure himself, & it takes him back to his biggest thrill in life - all things to Trump are binary - winning vs losing.

He also tends to blame Obama regularly. Example - blaming Obama yesterday for skipping his planned trip to England, one our best partners...until Trump alienated that country. Fact is they don't want Trump over there.

Trump probably blows a gasket knowing that his popularity pales in comparison to Obama's.

Trying to remember if any of our previous presidents bragged about winning an election 14 months later. Nope, can't think of any. Most actually focused on accomplishments during their presidency or were focusing on work that needed to be done.

If Kim ran, she would get the female vote, and with her marriage to Kanye, she might get a lot of the black votes also. She is a businesswoman. Remember her on The Apprentice? I don't think she has international experience to deal with national security type issues, but she may have experience with trade deals due to her business connections.

Of course America will be great - it already was, is, and will be! Saying "Make America Great Again" is just another way of saying "America Sucks".

gina - 1/20/2018 at 06:53 PM

Foreign policy wise, we do suck, most of the middle east does not like us, they just don't complain much because we keep throwing money at them. Even Pakistan with the 300+ million we throw at them keeps quiet. We need to stop supporting the world, just create good trade agreements and let other countries be sovereign and manage themselves. That won't happen with the American bribe money being flung all over the globe.

Look at what each of the countries produces, make trade agreements; beyond that if they want to buy things from us, let them, but manufacture those things here. Stop lusting and coveting the natural resources from Balochistan, Pakistan, the minerals from Afghanistan (minerals and gold, plus oil from the Caspian Sea), oil from Libya, Iraq. If Libya and the North African union countries want to have their own currency, which is what Qaddafi was trying to implement when we 'looted/ liberated" his country, LET THEM.

Venezuela is doing this now, with the backing of Iran and Russia, and what was our pre-emptive answer to their desires of doing that? The coincidental oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, that prevented BP Oil from being the first one to tap the vein that led to the Venezuelan oil.

Saudi has oil, as do other counties, if we acted with decency and fairness, we could make good deals, the price of oil here would not be as high as it is now. We could stop fracking and ruining our country. Iran does not want to be at war with us, they have oil too, Russia has oil.

Why can't we stop trying to rule the world, and instead become fair trading partners? What is our foreign policy? Sanction and piss everybody off. That is not diplomacy.
