My beloved Widnes Vikings Rugby League team suffered a huge loss yesterday with the passing of possibly the best signing we have made in 20 years. Kato Ottio (23) from Papua New Guinea who starred in the 2017 RL World Cup died from heat exhaustion whilst training in Port Moresby just 3 days before he was due to arrive in the UK with fellow PNG player Wellington Albert for the start of Super League 2018. The club have set up a fundraising page and will hold a minutes silence before this coming Fridays friendly against Whitehaven.

It was a sad occasion last night at the game. It was only a pre-season friendly, and the final score was 62-0 to the Widnes.
The CEO of The Vikings read out a tributeto Kato and a wreath was laid on the pitch next to the flag of PNG.
All the players wore shirts during the warm up with Kato's name and squad number on the back.
Their was a minute silence before kick-off and at the final whistle the total raised for Kato's family now stands at £14.500
